It just hit me...
...You know why so many Christians think that "the gays" are actively trying to "recruit" others "into their lifestyle?"

Because that's what a lot of Christians do.

Just as a liar assumes others lie and a thief assumes others steal, they are projecting their own motivations and practices onto others who, most of the time, are content to live and let live.

When's the last time you saw a fervent homosexual standing in a public space preaching about his sexual orientation at the top of his lungs, day after day, obnoxiously berating and judging passers-by?

My favorite is #7 on the list:

7. Obviously gay parents will raise gay children, since straight parents only raise straight children.

Maybe homophobic evangelicals should think about the fact that every gay person alive today came from a heterosexual union. They are working the wrong beat!

10. I think you are close.... it goes a little farther than that- I believe,
that they cannot tolerate independence- of thought, action, lifestyle, or belief.= Precicely because that would require CHOICES- and if you can 'choose' then you might choose wrong- So, rather than understand and accept that there are MANY ways to live, some chosen, some inherent- there is no ONE 'correct' way- that the whole 'herd' must live by, and the differences shouldn't threaten the validity of anyone elses way of living.

Lock step is only a means of controling the masses- and is achieved by forcing others to live lies, and maintained by coerecion and threats of punishment and destruction.

(at least in my opinion)

26. i completely agree with you-
that is why they need everyone to conform to their narrow view of what is acceptable, and anything that doesn't INCLUDING ( or should i say especially) 'christ'ians who don't/won't embrace a bound-up, intolerant, harsh judgemental and punishing 'god'- becomes a specific threat to their 'herd'- their controlled environment.

I agree. Lord knows I wish I could convert some hot ass guys to be gay, but Im pretty sure it wouldnt work (no more so than converting me straight) so I generally dont waste my time, like the zealots do trying to make me help find their apparently lost god

14. Actually...
...the reason why people think that gays 'recruit' is because they see everyone as being heterosexual FIRST. Thus, in order to 'change' to being gay, they think someone must have to be talked into it.

that are probably actually "in denial" homosexuals who figure the urges are because of the homosexual agenda. Then when they give into their urges it isn't their fault it's becuase they were recruited.

18. It's Not Just Gays...
Edited on Thu Jan-12-06 05:57 PM by AuntiBush
I'm straight. Whatever...

This past summer the Fundie-Evangelicals were banging down my door. They came every Thursday at the same precise time, just that I was always taking a shower. But I was ready for them on that 4th Thursday. Note, I found it extremely odd it was just my door, and no others. Neighbors were keeping an eye on them for me, which is one way I knew it was them banging down my door each Thur.

I answered to see 3 slightly over mid-aged folks and 1 very up-in-age woman. They literally dragged the poor ole' thing up several flights of front steps.

When I opened the door they just stood there, frozen and speechless. I asked them who they were. Nada. Blank stares was all I received.
Again, I asked. Still blank stares. I preceded to ask them what they wanted. Only 1 spoke and it was to sell their Christianity to me.

But he knew me by name. When I asked how they knew my name, and how was it they were only knocking at my door 4 Thursdays in a row, at the same exact time they froze again.

I asked what church. All they could do was stare. Honestly, it was frightening and creep-ed me out. I remained calm and asked again, "what church sent you?"
All pointed in the direction of a newly built Evangelical Church around the corner. Ok.

I asked them to please not come by ever again, and to step off my porch. Still, no response. My dog was barking loudly by now (he weights about 100 pounds).
After repeatedly asking them to please leave my property and getting no response (blank, eerie stares) I said, "how about I let the dog out."

They backed off my porch back wards.

Next day I drove to that church and walked into the office, and kindly asked to speak with the Minister and/or Reverend in charge.
There he was, dressed to the nine. And low and behold it was then I learned he had all of my personal information in his computer data.

I asked him how he got my information and he said someone in my state and county sold my information to him when I bought my house. He said they get a list from the county on all new home owners and renters. This was the summer of 2005.

When he refused to delete my information, I kindly mentioned my attorney. He quickly told the gal at the computer to erase me from his files.

As I was leaving he tried to get me to reform saying "I needed to be reborn."

I told him "I was born right the first time, and I was a Methodist till I die."

That was the end of that, but my point is they had all of my personal information, information about me, my home, birth date, even my SSN*, and no one told me nor asked for my permission. It really burned-me up and don't ask me to call the locals - honestly, I don't think anyone gives a darn.

And I'm not Gay, rather a straight widow here.

23. True Story!
Edited on Thu Jan-12-06 06:55 PM by AuntiBush
It still freaks me out.

What really hurt though, was that NO ONE in my county or state seemed to care when I called and complained, and I mean NO ONE.

A church filled with religious self-anointed saints bought or was given ALL of my most VITAL information, all without my consent or knowledge.
As far as I know, they might still have my information and it makes you wonder, who else has it!?!

They say we have to worry about criminals stealing out ID!?! NUTZ! Look at what happened to the Bank of American last summer. Wasn't that several times in a few weeks, right after the Bankruptcy bill passed? Believe so. And it goes on and on.

I was raised by 2 mountain-WVA true, ole' fashion Church of God/Church of Christ ministers. They never, ever stuffed their beliefs down my throat - not once. Matter-of-fact, they raised me to choice on my own and told me I didn't have to go to church if I didn't want to. But, I did. So, they took me to every denomination known to mankind. And still they'd tell me I didn't have to go. They also taught me not to take the Bible literally.

So for me to rant about this, well, trust me it's saying a lot. I feel sincerely sorry for those less educated and suffering low times. That's who they target. The disabled, widows and widowers, gays, the down-trotted in life. But, I rose above them. Feel very fortunate my folks, now long gone raised me to think for myself and respect everyone, regardless.

But, this is how these people operate. Those people standing on my porch-front were strange, creepy, blank-eyed, and only 1 could mutter a few words. The rest were robotic.

Now I have the creeps just thinking about it. Brainwashing those that can not help to think for themselves. Sad. Really, really sad.

NOTE: This group is pushing BIG-TIME for Church & State and joined forces with a U.M. Church up the road from their location & a Presbyterian Church, as well. Lord knows how many other Church's are involved. And to see this happen just outside a huge metropolitan city is enough to make one just

25. Somebody called my daughter, AT HER OFFICE to solicit support
for his Christian or xian crusade. Asked reception desk specifically for my daughter (the wayward one, only child;) ) by name.

Freaked her out and she inquired as to how he got her name and place of work, etc. Caller said got her name from the company's web site. She asked around the office. Only one other person received similar call, the previous week. She also told the guy she did not appreciate his calling her at work to ask for support for his campus mission.

It sorta freaked her out. We used to do Saturdays at Planned Parenthood Clinic when they had to ask for volunteers to man the perimeter of their property on days the fundies were gonna bus picketers in. She was followed by one of the whackos once on a weekday, not a picket day and he threw a bunch of those fetus pictures at her.

30. that's not only scary, it SHOULD be
criminal- no one should be able to sell your personal information- especially if it was someone in local government. You know I think you should check out the 'denominaton' of this church- I'm guessing it is an 'independent' one- which is scary in itself, because there is no 'oversight' for churches like this- I know, because i used to go to one.

Scary- Please DO check and see if the church is affilliated with any orginazation- if it is, they should be taken to task for this- I'd be happy to add my voice as a fellow person of faith who finds this extreemly offensive, and inappropriate.

and give that dog a cookie for me-
nothing like a dog to smell something rotten and sound off about it-

peace,
blu
