Christian Wire: "Will Sony remake Birth of a Nation? Tom Hanks as Hitler?"

Contact: Jason Jones, Media Director for Human Life International, 540-551-0217, [email protected]

WASHINGTON, May 17 /Christian Wire Service/ -- The Rev. Thomas J. Euteneuer, President of Human Life International (HLI), joined Dr. Ted Baehr of Movieguide.org, Don Feder, Austin Ruse of the Catholic Family and Human Rights Institute, Patrick Reilly of the Cardinal Newman Society, and Bob Knight of Concerned Women for America as part of The Interfaith Coalition Against 'The Da Vinci Code.'"

An address by Rev. Thomas J. Euteneuer, President of Human Life International (HLI), at the National Press Club:

“Good Afternoon, I am the Rev. Thomas J. Euteneuer, President of Human Life International a Catholic Human Rights Organization with offices in 75 countries.

“The Da Vinci Code is filled with contradictions, nonsensical statements, and innumerable artistic and historical inaccuracies. :wow:(NOTE: So is your monkey President.)

“It is not the contradictions and two-dimensional characters that have led to our boycott of Sony’s Da Vinci Code the Movie.

“Human Life International is boycotting Sony’s Da Vinci Code the Movie because it seeks to profit off bigotry, proselytizes Satanism, and undermines the dignity of women.

“Sony’s Da Vinci Code the Movie seeks to profit off the permissible prejudice of anti-Catholic Bigotry. If Ron Howard were to replace the word Catholic every time it appeared in the Da Vinci Code with Jew or Muslim, the outcry from the mainstream media would have rightfully been deafening.

“Why is it acceptable to slander Christians generally and Catholics specifically?

“If Sony profits from anti-Catholic bigotry this May, what can we expect in the future?

“Next summer, will they seek to profit off anti-Semitism: Protocols of the Elders of Zion coming to a theater near you, Directed by Ron Howard?

“Will Sony remake Birth of a Nation?

“Tom Hanks starring as Hitler in Sony’s Mein Kampf may be just around the corner.

“Sony must get the message loud and clear: you can not profit from hate. Sony may make money by bashing Christians and Mocking Jesus Christ with Da Vinci Code the Movie, but they will pay every penny back in dollars in the years to come.

“Let us reject bigotry and Boycott Sony’s Da Vinci Code Movie.

“The Da Vinci Code glorifies hieros gamos a satanic ritual that reduces women to nothing more than objects in a male dominated sex ritual.

“Out of respect for women, let us boycott Sony’s Da Vinci Code the Movie. :eyes: (Note: THAT'S A FIRST!)

“Should any Christian see this movie? At our baptism, we pledge to ‘reject Satan, and all his works and all his empty promises.’

“Let us reject Sony’s Da Vinci Code the Movie!” concluded the Rev. Thomas J. Euteneuer.

3. Wow, they're gettin' desperate!!!!!
If they'd just shut up and let it go, they'd be better off. But by screaming, ranting, pulling asshole excuses out of their hats, (the bigotry against women is a hoot, that!) all they are doing is protesting a bit too much....

12. Prorocols of the Elders of Zion?
CHRISTIAN-authored anti-semitic propaganda. Used and quoted for DECADES by Christian bigots.

18. But now that they're anti-bigotry, shouldn't we welcome their liberality?
Say someone made a movie about a liberal Democratic organization killing people to hide the fact that, say, Andrew Jackson was a mulatto, would you support it? What if it was about Democrats secretly plotting to destroy private property, something our harshest critics claim is actually our hidden agenda? Would you still stand up for the right of the filmmakers to create their art?

20. I wouldn't exactly call it liberality
Just plain facing the truth where it concerns the Protocols.

And no, I have no objections whatsoever to a film maker creating soemthing like that from a work of fiction. I'm secure in the knowledge that history will show that the events on film are contrived and untrue.

But I agree that the perception of evil might be transferred to the very real and named subjects of the film (The Church and Opus Dei). But they don't exactly have a spotless record of service to humanity, either.

5. can we say hysterical? can we say, "get a freaking clue--it's a MOVIE"
on the other hand, they are giving the movie a great deal of free publicity, so perhaps we should just let them continue whining and foaming at the mouth over this piece of FICTION.

"out of concern for women"??????? and lightning didn't strike when this phrase was uttered by this bunch? proof there is NO deity.

6. So what and who cares? I, for one, am sick and tired of the christian
religionists expecting to be able to shove their version of gawd down throats whenever they damned well please. Let's be frank: the thing the religionists fear most is people ACTUALLY investigating religions and their claims. The religionists should be thankful that the Code has awaken so much interest into christian history. It's harder to control with fear when ignorance can no longer be used.

8. Whenever I hear an argument against something that includes
exaggerations or theoretical next steps, I take that to mean that the speaker KNOWS that whatever they are rallying against is not bad enough (ie. too neutral). It reminds of Santorum saying that acknowledging same sex marriage would lead to inter-species marriages.

9. bronx cheer
The problem with the Da Vinci Code is that the fake secret church it portrays is more appealing than the real thing.

11. Where were these guys when Lord of the Rings came out?
I submit that Tolkein's treatment of Balrogs was every bit as prejudiced and despicable as anything that shows up out of the Da Vinci Code. Why, some of my best friends are . . . Well, this isn't about me.

But my point is, that all these folks who are so up in arms when a work of fiction takes some literary license to tell a story are nowhere to be found when the so-called "villains" aren't cute and cuddly. For shame, Rev. Euteneuter.

13. What hypocrites
When Hollywood was making movies showing Arabs as terrorists and evil, where were these "Christians",
I don't recall this group coming out against movies like DeltaForce, Executive Decision, and the others that had Arabs as the bad guys.

Respect for women? Would that be the respect about how women cannot speak in church, or that women are below men? If they denounce the Bible passages that make those statement, then and only then would I even think of listening to them.

I had no plans to go and see this movie, but I've changed my mind, and I going to pick up the book
on my home from work tonight.

14. I really didn't care to watch the movie before reading this...
Now, I'm going to the theater in stead of waiting for the video. Any movie that reduces women to mere sex objects in a male dominated sex ritual is must see TV.

16. How can they oppose religious prejudice, but then attack Satanism as evil?
Isn't Satanism a religion? If they want to protect religion from slanderous (albeit free, artistic) speech, shouldn't they protect Satanism too? The book didn't show that Satanist ritual of hieros gamos in a glorified way. My impression was that the practice of it was by fairly frivolous and inconsequiential characters of dubious morals. If the movie is faithful to the book, it won't be glorified per se.

On the other hand, he does have a point about the double standard. I'm going to make sure I am supportive of the next entertainingly anti-semetic film I see come out of Hollywood.

17. "you cannot profit from hate" - lol
I think they write their tripe by just looking at their own issues and labeling the other side with them. These people profit greatly from hate.

it looks like it is going to be good. The stars are great, the director is great. It looks like my kind of movie - an action thriller.

22. Respect for Women???
Ummm... pardon me, but wasn't the Catholic Church the ones that called Mary Magdelene a whore for centuries? Ignored her role in the Gospels? And you're still barring women from becoming priests?

Yeah, and those "Black Madonnas" are just statues of the Virgin covered with smoke. :D

Please.... if they want to "respect women", they should come clean about everything they did over the past two millennia to stamp out worship of the Divine Feminine.
