Chafee says he's still undecided on Alito

WASHINGTON Senator Lincoln Chafee says he hasn't made up his mind about President Bush's latest choice for the Supreme Court.

Supreme Court nominee Samuel Alito finished testifying before the Senate Judiciary Committee today.

But Chafee says he wants to sit through all the hearings before he makes up his mind. The moderate Republican is considered a key swing vote in Alito's confirmation fight.

Cranston Mayor Stephen Laffey, who is running for Chafee's Senate seat, says he would vote to confirm Alito.

1. That last sentence above probably explains his 'indecision'
It'll keep the arm-twisters (e.g., KKKarl) at bay if they have less reason to suspect he's decided against Scalito. IF he's decided against him.

4. He's screwed no matter how he votes
A no vote, and he's screwed in the primary.

A yes vote, and he may survive the primary, but then he's screwed in the general election.
