Forget about ego's, apologies and taking sides....

This past week has been a reminder of what we democrats have been notoriously famous for, and that is eating our own. Sometimes we are our own worst enemies. There have been a lot of bruised egos floating around here of late. Are we, or are we not all on the same side of the political aisle? But this episode serves to demonstrate why democrats keep getting steamrolled, even when a sitting president, with a rubber stamp republican congress has a 29 percent approval rating. One word pretty much sums it all up: PATHETIC.

You know that the repubs are desperate when they work really hard to make political hay from the Leopold story.

Frankly, I don't care if certain progressive writers get their nose bent out of joint because we dare to question a writer's sources. Everyone here should know that politics is a full contact sport, so to speak, and noses do get bloodied. Harry Truman said, "If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen." Anyone here who posts threads, or issues their remarks are subject to a berating from time to time. It certainly has happened to me, and I'm still standing, offering my thoughts, when I feel it's appropriate. Our opinions and our passions run strong, and we tend to become entrenched, which, sometimes is not a good thing. But we are human. And, the bottom line is that we are all working toward a Democratic victory in both houses this fall, as well as overturning the most corrupt administration this country has ever seen.

To Will Pitt I say, "Stick your ego in a closet. I do not believe you have the right to expect lockstep loyalty and trust from your readers." You are a most valuable member of our community, and I sincerely hope we do not lose your input. Anyone who doesn't recognize your contributions and value to us and the progressive movement is a fool. Ours would be a sad loss. But, having said that, I would hope that you can place your professionalism and purpose ahead of your bruised pride. Me? I have lived long enough to realize that the only people in this world that I have given complete trust and loyalty to have been my parents and my wife. Everyone else has let me down at some time or another. Skepticism toward journalists and politicians is a natural and healthy thing for me, and has served well to make me a better informed democrat.

And Jason Leopold? I don't know if he was set up, had bad sources, good sources, or whatever. Truthout and Leopold may well be right as rain on this one. But, looking at the situation from many of our standpoints, you have to be able to understand why many here have been skeptical. I personally haven't meant to make it any type of personal attack. I just want accurate reporting of the truth, and will always demand it. The public sort of views journalists like baseball pitchers; they are only as good as their last outing. Unfair, but basically true.

This bickering about who is loyal, who isn't loyal, who is right or wrong has simply got to go. We can offer our opinions, but we should stop choosing sides and creating unnecessary feuds, like we were the Hatfields and McCoys. It's just silly. The only thing that really matters in this whole mess is that stories that are reported are based on factual information, and that those within the government, who are being investigated for wrongdoing recieve proper justice.

So, forget ego's forget, apologies and let's stay focused. We have a lot to do, and a long way to go.

3. lol! thanks. I do hope that I didn't come aross as egotistical or

condescending, but that is the risk one takes, when posting certain threads.

4. good post, thanks.
am a bit dissapointed at the herd mentality myself, and that some people here are expected to be beyond reproach and not questioned or critiized or they throw a fit.

but this too shall pass.

7. It would be my pleasure, if I felt that it would never be necessary

to express such concerns. I love writing about other issues.

10. Skeptical
I'm a skeptical reader. It doesn't matter who wrote it.

After all, the eugenics era was a liberal AND conservative movement.

11. Here's something else we don't have
Patience. If we go batshit crazy and turn on each other, we're no better than the FReepers. That's why I'm withholding judgment and watching the show

12. Some constructive criticism is a good thing, and necessary
to keep a public figure's self image in perspective. The readers or listeners who can be counted on for lockstep loyalty are no better than some pre-teen fan club. A columnist or speaker who has confidence in his or her postions, and a strong sense of purpose does not need constant adulation. I think of Stephen Colbert who knew what he wanted to say, and did not back down or get angry or threaten retaliation or go into a self pity mode because he got a hostile reception.

13. I certainly don't mind getting my ego slapped down, from time to time.

And I can count on to entities to keep me real: my wife, and DU. It's a good thing.

14. The truth is the truth.
It doesn't take sides. It just is what it is. Either Leopold's story reflects the truth, or it doesn't. If it doesn't, it isn't good journalism.

Close only counts in horseshoes and handgrenades. Not in responsible journalism.

15. And as I said in my post, a journalist should not take skepticism personal

Journalists, at least good ones have a sense of duty and a responsibility to give facts, and in my opinion should realize that public skepticism is what helps keep them honest. If the public takes a pass, what we end up with is the cozy little relationship that many in the W.H. press corps. enjoy with the existing power structure. Not casting any aspersions with this comment.

16. I hear you and thank you for taking the pains you're taking.
It is difficult to keep ego out of it, when it boils down to a question of good or bad work, because people are rather invested in how others view their output. But for those of us not invested in someone else's ego, it really does just boil down to, does this product I'm being asked to consume serve me well? I don't care who made it; does it give me something substantial, or is it fluff?
