What the hell am I missing?
Edited on Tue May-16-06 12:59 AM by smartvoter
I know the Kos report on Leopold's postings is one issue that needs to be addressed, but looking at the story about Rove being indicted, I saw the following from the truthout.org site as I went looking for this "bad call" I keep reading about:

It was still unknown Saturday whether Fitzgerald charged Rove with a more serious obstruction of justice charge. Sources close to the case said Friday that it appeared very likely that an obstruction charge against Rove would be included with charges of perjury and lying to investigators.

An announcement by Fitzgerald is expected to come this week, sources close to the case said. However, the day and time is unknown. Randall Samborn, a spokesman for the special prosecutor was unavailable for comment. In the past, Samborn said he could not comment on the case.

It's only Monday (okay, it just turned Tuesday in half the country). We are only 1/5th of the way through the week. How can anyone claim this is bogus or wrong at this stage? Why is everyone worked up and arguing over this? I missed the controversy this weekend so maybe I am missing something... ??? What gives? Any guidance here would be greatly appreciated...

???

4. I'll play
I look at it this way.

Saturday, it looked like Jason Leopold had a scoop.

Sunday came... big news day, what with the Cheney margin notes, Bush's immigration speech, but still nothing of Rove's indictment.

Sunday night... nothing. No Monday morning, released-at-11:00 pm New York Times headline.

Monday morning? Nothing. Tuesday's headline? It isn't Rove's indictment.

At what point does a scoop expire? Is there a statute of limitations in a 24-hour news cycle?

As days pass, the Leopold story loses its oomph. It may prove prescient (I think we all hope it does), but if Rove gets indicted on, say, Thursday, or even Wednesday, doesn't Andrea Mitchell or Suzanne Malveaux or some other mainstream White House beat reporter get the "scoop" when Fitzgerald's papers come down?

I'm just trying to be real, here.

6. Okay. Fair enough...
Thanks for the clarification. I was out and dropped in and WOW the board is loaded with all this taking sides and so on...

Sorry to add thread number 1,000,001 on it. I read many and couldn't figure it all out because it's progressed so far in discussion.

Thanks again.

7. No, I think your question is a fair one and worthy of a new thread...
... and discussion on a well-worn topic.

I hope you'll hear more opinions, and not just the "I'm with Leopold, right or wrong" drama.

9. Start here
This is the thread by Will Pitt that started it all.

It went downhill from there.
