I never thought I'd see the day when Godwin's Law.
.. would become obsolete.

1. Indeed. We rarely speak of Nazis any more
Rather, we talk about the GOP.

2. I'm firmly against Godwin's Law. Insisting that anyone who mentions
Nazis has lost an argument is a guarantee that we will have more Nazis, stat.

4. That's not Godwin's Law. That's a corrollary.
Godwin's Law:
As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches one.<1>
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Godwin's_law

This isn't a matter of winning vs. losing -- this is a matter of Internet psychology. Eventually, somebody will mention Hitler.

'Course, in most online discussions, Godwin's Law is invoked when one poster compares the moderating tactics to that of the Gestapo, or compares putting smokers in a smoking section to concentration camps, or similar, and not due to any actual attemp at historical comparison -- and yes, I think you lose when you call your opponent a Nazi.

8. Futher elaborating...
What irks me most on "generic Godwin" situations is, most of the time, the utter lack of originality of the flamers involved.

Now, the Godwinic rhetoric that REALLY REALLY REALLY pisses me off is trying to pass the notions that (a) Nazism was real, bona fide socialism, (b) Nazis hated Christians as much as they hated Jews, because, you know, (c) they were all atheists.

Then, when you rub Mein Kampf quotes on they faces, they go "No True Scotsman" on you. Makes me want to hit somebody with a crowbar. Thankfully, I'm not a violent person and the feeling subsides quickly.

5. To elaborate on my point..
... a bit, I no longer find comparisons to Nazis to be as fantastically far-fetched as they would have been 5 years ago.

I think the idea that "you lose" if you do so is now "quaint". :)

6. I did
that's why I created this Flash called, "Bush is not a Nazi - so Stop Saying That.."

http://www.takebackthemedia.com/bushnonazi.html

During the Bush in 30 Seconds MoveOn contest DRUDGE himself fingered ME as one of the people who snuck in an ad featuring Bush as Hitler, only problem was, was that I had made THIS flash about two years before that, so the dumbass was totally OFF, it was hilarious, idiot..

Lots of facts in this one, not to mention some great music, turn up those speakers :)
