I found a new On-Line Video Blog/Feed/collection "Throw away Your TV"
I'm not completely sure about how all of it works, (some of it might not yet work, it's still very new) but here's the link: <http://throwawayyourtv.com/>

They have feeds and cross links to Crooks and Liars, Ameriblog, etc. bringing together video from The Daily Show, Colbert Report, Oberman's Countdown, etc. all to one place.

Please note: For me, the site is a little slow to load and I don't know if it works (yet) with FireFox, but I have many layers of Ad Blockers and Spyware blockers active on my computer, so it could just be my computer. I had to go to IE 6.x to get the site to fully load.

I think it's still a work in progress, but it could turn into a very nice resource.

Here's a link to the "Throw away Your TV" Tutorial/FAQs page, it helps explain it better than I can. <http://www.taytv.com/2006/04/throwawayyourtvcom-archive.html>

It might be associated with "FeedBurner" or del.icio.us, here's a Daily Show page that brought me to "Throw away Your TV" <http://feeds.feedburner.com/throwawayyourtv/dailyshow>

What do ya think? Anyone know any more about "Throw away Your TV", FeedBurner, or what del.icio.us is?

3. I might be able to answer your question
... Since it's my site...

Thanks for showing interest in my site, in a nutshell it's a collection of videos, an archive if you would.

I am a huge fan of Colbert and Stewart and I was inspired by C&L and onegoodmove.org, but I am not the best writer so I just started posting the videos and adding a link to a related article.. the idea is for people to throw away your tv, I feel the internet is a much better resource for those seeking visual stimulation since you can find related information, and dig deeper into interesting topics that are presented on tv.

With sites like google video and youtube exploding recently online viewers are increasing, this site is meant to filter out all the webcam dancers and such that you get with a site like youtube.

Anyway the site should work perfectly for you in firefox.. I can't even get it to work with IE.

Feedburner - is RSS
Del.icio.us - is a bookmarking site, throwawayyourtv.cmo uses it to archive the videos.

i'll stick around if you have more questions :D

6. Oh Great! Good to see you here. I had sort of wondered if the site creator
...might also be a member here at DU.

Good to know your site works with FireFox for you, this is not uncommon for my FireFox browser not to work correctly on a site like this. I had a Hard Drive crash a few years ago, and still have a few bugs in my system.

I do have a few questions I'll post in a few minutes.

7. that is odd
that is isn't working in Firefox for ya? It's basically just a blogger blog with embedded videos. But its probably just the overload on the main page having to load up 10 videos. Do you have the latest version of Firefox?

9. Yep, FireFox v1.5.0.3, I think it's most likely the pop-up or...

...script blocker settings that I need to change.

I use the built in Blockers in Firefox, plus AdSubtract, plus SpySweeper. I turned off AdSubtract, my guess is it's a setting in SpySweeper that I need to change.

Anyway, I have to admit that the some of the new internet tools are rather confusing, they seem to be adding more every day.

What are these little Icons? What do they do or what do you need to do to use them:

And on the right side of your Archive pages about half way down, you have those different colored flags under "RSS - Pick Your Poison" They say:

TayTV.com

ThrowawayyourTV.com

VideoRolls

Politics

- Comedy

George.W.Bush

- Media

Religion

Atheism

The Daily Show

What are these and how do you use them?

11. web 2.0ish
Those are bookmarklets, basically if you have an account with any of those bookmark sites you just click on them and it will save the page to that website.

from left to right they are

reddit.com
blinklist.com
del.icio.us
digg.com
furl.com
simpy.com
and slashdot.com

I personally only use Reddit.com and del.ici.us I am not too familiar with the others, but some users use them.

Pick you poison are RSS feeds, if you RSS you can click on any of those subjects and you videos of that nature will be sent to you by mail or RSS whenever I add them. So if you choose "the daily show" whenver I add a daily show clip to throwaway it will appear on your RSS reader and/or send you an email.

13. Oh, O.K., Thanks. I hadn't heard of any of those bookmark sites yet.
I do use RSS, but I'd never seen custom RSS like that before.

Thanks for the site, it looks promising.

12. Great work!
I was the third person to add your del.icio.us to my del.icio.us. I saw your site from a Metafilter link on Kirk Cameron being retarded about evolution. You have been in my del.icio.us network ever since. Fantastic site..

4. I found it the other day on del.icio.us

You can make your own list for del.icio.us, just register and you can make a blog list like the guy/gal who does "throw away your tv".

I like this persons' choices though.

Edit: Didn't see your post up above...good work!

5. del.icio.us
The way we use del.icio.us is simply for the archiving capabilities... Every video we add we "Tag" with the name of the show, the length of the clip and other relevent topics.. so for example the Stephen Colbert 60 minutes segement would appear in the archive under the following tags..

60Minutes.CBS
10-20mins
Stephen.Colbert
documentary
daily.show
bill.oreilly

All these are relevent to the video, So if somebody for some reason is looking for clips on Bill Oreilly, they will stumble across this clip.
