Are the Republicans Incapable of “Truthfulness?”

Thinking about all the outright lies and deceptions practiced by the Republican Party, any moral, sane and rational person must wonder if truth is beyond their capabilities. The Republicans do have a handle on one reality, that is, if they don’t lie about their agenda, goals and objectives they cannot win elections.

To paraphrase Reagan…if you laid all their lies one on top of the other they would reach from here to hell.


There is one other point on this matter. The Republicans and their minions in the press accuse the Democrats of not having a plan. My rejoinder to that charge is, with the Republicans you cannot tell what their plan is, because they dissemble, spin and outright lie.

are losing the battle of belief. People are waking up and seeing the lies. During and after Reagan, theres still a vast majority that still think Reagan was honest and truthful. Of course they are capable of telling the truth. They're just like we are.

I'm sure if the shoe were on the other foot, a lot of Democrats would be slower to come around than anybody else.

The Gallup poll yesterday indicated that a third of Republicans and even more "conservatives" (generally an overlapping group) give disapprove of Bush and do not believe the GOP should retain control of Congress.

I put the word conservative in quotes because it is the most abused word in the American political lexicon. Barry Goldwater and Warren Rudman are conservatives. Jesse Helms and Ann Coulter are not.

6. I'm not sure republicans can be trusted to tell the truth

They may be able to give their name and some other details without telling a lie, but when it comes to important matters that effect the future of our country, I cannot ever tell if they are lying or telling the truth. They are SO intent on being right that it does not occur to them that lying is wrong when attempting to achieve their goal. They need to have a serious loss at the polls before they realize that they are not invincible and that lying for their "cause" is wrong and immoral.

I believe the bottom line re. the struggle going on in this country today is between those who have a shred of integrity left and those who sold their souls to the highest bidder long ago. We are not far from a Lord of the Flies scenario.

There is a mindset, quite rightly associated with Republicans though it can be found in any group, that it is fine to lie and cheat and actually smart to do so. Only real dumbasses are in any way honest. As a society we have rewarded this. (See "The Cheating Culture" by David Callahan) We have turned a blind eye to corruption and dishonesty to the point where we've lost any agreed-upon sense of ethics. And maybe others of us who "try" to be honest, have been duped into thinking that our society is more trustworthy than it is. To be fair to the Sheeple, they DO sense that something is wrong. But they focus on quaint notions of morality in the more literal, body-oriented sense and can't see much beyond that. They think it's "the basic family unit" falling apart, but the problem is much bigger--it is our national family that has fallen apart. We who operate at higher levels, or so we think...have dropped the ball as far as maintaining higher standards of ethics in government, business, law, institutions, etc. Much has been going on behind the scenes out of our control, so we cannot shoulder all the blame. But Bushco is the logical outcome of this course we are on as a culture.
