The Latest Hazard of the One Party Government

"A military officer would be in charge of every major spy agency if President Bush nominates Air Force Gen. Michael Hayden to run the CIA."

That's the lede in the WaTimes.

We could note the spin -a nom by Dear Leader doesn't necessarily guarantee confirmation, but why bother? It's Backwards Day. The liberal (HAHAHAHAHA) WaPo takes a different, less intrepid-y approach. Bear in mind that this is the guy who refused to deny that the NSA isn't spying on journalists or Bush's political enemies.

The first couple of paragraphs indicate that, yes yes yes! the Staff Writers certainly WILL be available for cocktail parties all season.
:woohoo:

HaydenHype:

*He's a "nonconformist...independent...outspoken" and paramount duh, he "enjoyed talking to journalists".

*Hayden is presented as the anti-Rumsfeld -You know, the guy that only two Americans still like?- asking if "the mild-mannered Hayden can protect {the CIA} from the bureaucratic maneuverings of Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld".

*The entire conflict with Dems in Congress is explained with an anecdote about his inablility to cancel a family outing to brief them!

*This is the quote from a critic: "He is affable, he is nice and he is probably the senior most qualified intelligence officer in the United States". His/her only problem seems to be the way the general dresses. Retirement would guarantee a whole new wardrobe.

*The WT writes that Hayden's "career has centered on electronic spying". The WP's version?. He "comes out of the technical side of intelligence".
