36. I guess...
the hookers demanded a refund for services rendered but we're refused. So they stormed the WH and demanded that Chimpie fire Mr. Limpdick or else be exposed...does this sound like well...logical?

Russert, anxiously sweating, away from the buffet on a Friday to go in front of the cameras and say exactly that.

Just a turf war, nothing to see, move along!!!!

Porter was Bush's PERSONAL CHOICE. Hand-picked. And if it was a simple turf war, why the LIGHTNING QUICK resignation? Give the guy a month to clear out his desk, eh???

Naaah, there's poker, booze, limos, congressmen, hotel rooms, contractors, lobbyists, and oh, yeah, HOOKERS in all this. And someone is talking like mad....they had to get him gone FAST.

64. Ray McGovern has not been quiet. Not at all.
He has been speaking out against the war and BushCo for many months. He also knows a lot about Plame and the leak.

Good fella.

I don't think the Goss thing has a thing to do with McGovern.

However, let's throw this on the table, just to cover another base. Any chance, as the Cunningham and DeLay investigations have converged at least a little bit, that the Fitz investigation of the Plame leak could have something to do with the Goss resignation? Just so we keep all possibilities in mind ....

Cooking With Goss
The new CIA chief's shakeups are bad news.

By Fred Kaplan
Posted Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2004, at 5:42 PM ET

http://www.slate.com/id/2109870/

... Goss also helped Bush during the early days of the Joseph Wilson-Valerie Plame scandal. As chairman of a House oversight committee and as a former CIA case officer himself, Goss should have been dismayed that a White House aide might have exposed the identity of an undercover agent as an act of political retaliation against the agent's spouse. But, although the Justice Department took the reports seriously enough to mount a grand-jury probe, Goss dismissed them as "wild and unsubstantiated" and added, as a jab at the Democrats, "Somebody sends me a blue dress and some DNA, I'll have an investigation." ...

Of course, this would win an award for irony if Goss has been involved in hanky panky involving exchange of bodily fluids for defense contracts. (Would we have to call that a Patriot Act?????)

If this had been a firing due to incompetence, there is NO WAY IN HELL the bush cabal would have been caught unaware as they so obviously were. They would have been preparing the ground on this well before today.

This is a very pathetic attempt to spin this well after the shit has hit the fan, imo.

29. War and Piece says Goss fired by Bush** over Foggo
War and Piece
I hear that when Porter Goss went to meet with Negroponte today, he didn't know he was going to be leaving the job. And that it would have been the President's decision, not Negroponte's. And that this may have to do with how Goss handled a management issue concerning Foggo. And perhaps with a tie in to HIPSI.

And I hear that Fran Townsend has already been approached about taking Goss's job -- and turned it down.

Somewhere else I read that Goss was ordered to fire Foggo and refused, and that's why he got the axe.

39. That makes sense, and explains part of the after-the-fact spin job.
Newsweek's Mike Isikoff says "something happened this week that made this happen today." He's damned right.

So, the WH says Goss wasn't a team player and had to be fired. Negroponte got the job done this morning.... but why? Because Goss wouldn't fire his lackey, Dusty Foggo.

So it'll still all come back around to Hookergate. The WH Spin that Goss was fired is just a tactic to buy time over the weekend to brace themselves for Monday's papers. :-)

I know nothing about this issue. But my "gut feeling" was that he was fired. And that he wasn't working the way the administration wanted. Just a guess. They don't jump ship, and they don't fire one another without a good reason.

So what was it he was going to say? Or what was it he wasn't willing to say?

Just an ignorant guess.

Doesn't look like it's the cause of his downfall, but apparently Cheney and Negroponte were miffed that Goss kept sending over reports that Iran could go nuclear on 10 years, not ten months. I'm imagining they're only too happy to see hooker problems show up for a guy who kept sending them more of those damned facts.

62. Interesting take from Jane Hamsher (firedoglake):
Hookers By Jane Hamsher

Color me confused. Everyone on TV seems to be buying the line that the Goss resignation has been planned for weeks. No natural curiosity about the fact that it takes effect immediately, or that there is no replacement, or that he had a meeting scheduled this afternoon he didn’t show up for. Not to mention the fact that as Professor Foland pointed out in the comments, the White House would’ve probably sacrificed its collective left nut to avoid stepping on a drunk Kennedy story.
</snip>
