Depiction Of Cross Causes Burbank Flap
By CAMILLE DROBUT
The new Burbank vehicle stickers came under fire last week. The vehicle sticker depicts a soldier kneeling next to the grave of a fallen comrade.
According to Burbank Mayor Klein, Nichole Schultz of Burbank found the cross on the grave to be offensive to atheists.
Schultz had sent letters to the city and the News-Herald objecting to the use of the cross in the depiction
In response, Klein said, “The cross implies a fallen comrade, not Christianity,” said Klein. “The soldiers’ names are written on the cross, so they can be identified. This is done internationally, not just by Christians.”
He explained that Burbank has lost several residents during the war in Iraq and merely wanted to honor them, not create controversy. The general consensus of those present at the council meeting suggested the resident might consider fighting for something that really mattered, something that would add to the community in some way.
