"I don't watch the news, I don't care, it's too depressing"
So, I take my garbage out this morning and meet my neighbor Bob down by the cans. Since I don't see him too often, we start to discuss "things". As soon as I bring up Bishy, that was his quote. It's sad, very sad. At my local bagel shop, people don't sit and read the newspapers any longer, they ignore them. And just about everywhere I go in this bastion of Right wing excess, the norm is sour looks and silence. Blaring horns, shaking fists, foul language for the slightest reason.

For those of us who stand for what is right in this world, dread is the norm. Silent hope, empty pockets, worried about who is watching or listening. Knowing that our government expects millions to die of bird flu, collateral damage of the worst kind. This isn't the America I was born into, and I don't want it to be the America I leave to my daughter and her children.

I wake up every morning and wonder what it would be like to be oblivious to the current situation, hoping that shit doesn't run downhill.

1. Thats the response I get a lot. Especially from people who voted
for Bush. I want to explode when I hear this. The news is depressing, so I just voted for Bush. What?!?!

4. No, you've got it backwards, I think
It goes:

"I voted for Stupid."

Why did you vote for him?

"I dunno, I just did."

and now they're depressed by the news because it's dawned on them what their bovine stupidity has done to all of us.

But don't worry. They wouldn't get anything but happy talk on the news, anyway, and wasn't the mimic funny? They'll be seeing the real news: the gas prices, the escalating price of food, the lines at the unemployment office, the mounting credit card debt as the paycheck no longer lasts until the next one, and the foreclosure signs in the windows all over the neighborhood. Trust me, that is the kind of news they're seeing in the fancy walled suburbs, too.

They've turned off the propaganda. They're still getting the news.

2. I know several republicans that act that way.
Funny thing is that during the Clinton administration, they LOVED to talk politics... and I always obliged.

Can't take what they dish out... cowards of the worst kind, because what they're allowing to rot due to their neglect is not theirs, but belongs to all of us and to future generations as well.

7. You bet, blow jobs were all the norm, and Clinton was blamed
for the kids learning about them, not realizing that the perversion of the Right gave them license, not Clinton. Now we have a hooker scandal, bribes, outright ignoring of laws, and these cocksuckers stuck their heads in the sand.

Maybe it is good and just maybe it will be a referendum in November.

3. I feel it's more hopeless than before...
It doesn't matter what Bush or his cronies do. They always get away with it. Sometimes, I feel like it's just a waste of time to watch the news or follow politics at all. I ask myself "What difference does it make that I care about these things"? Then I get over it, and I'm back here at DU, ranting and raving. But I think that some people ARE giving up.

5. But there is good news - these assholes won't vote.
They are disillusioned rightwing fucknuts who realize that their Messiah President is nothing but smoke and mirrors. So, disillusioned, they won't be willing to back a democrat in the next election, but they also won't be willing to back a republican because of the let down. So, they won't vote.

6. Good point, the BUSH bumper stickers are gone
I see lots of Kerry stickers, they haven't been ripped off, but here in Morris "Red" county, all the bumper stickers are gone, the support our troops magnetic ribbons that the Chinese made tens of millions off of are gone, and anyplace that has a TV (other than the fucking wing nuts who run the post office) has something OTHER than the news on.

8. I saw a W sticker this morning
but it was the first one I've seen in weeks. I used to see a lot of them, but it looks like people are getting fed up.

9. I thought again today about what you wrote.
I think some will vote because they are Bush-bots, and duty comes before intelligence and the well being of the county.
