Ginsburg worried about Soviet-Like judicial watchdog proposed by Congress
Edited on Tue May-02-06 08:06 PM by originalpckelly
The AP just put a story out on the wire, which tells about a speech Justice Ginsburg made before a gathering of ABA. This is in addition to the statement made earlier this year by moderate Justice O'Connor, which was along the same lines.

WASHINGTON - Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg said Tuesday that a Republican proposal in Congress to set up a watchdog over the federal courts is a "really scary idea."

Ginsburg told a gathering of the American Bar Association that lawyers should stick up for judges when they are criticized by congressional leaders.

"My sense now is that the judiciary is under assault in a way that I haven't seen before," she said.

"It sounds to me very much like the Soviet Union was .... That's a really scary idea," said Ginsburg, who was put on the court by President Clinton and is one of its liberal members.

I guess tyranny has finally recovered from that near-death experience it had in the '90s.

1. No one is safe. Worse than the USSR. That's going to be my next

2. I completely agree.
It is really scary stuff when people who are by their very nature level-headed (except Scalia of course) come forward and make such comparisons. This should worry people because the court is the last hope of America, and when it is attacked there is no more hope.
