A note to the "progressives" on DU :
Edited on Tue May-02-06 11:05 AM by kentuck
Do not give up the fight. DU has grown tremendously in the last 6 months to a year. But the idea must remain alive. We cannot let dull turds spoil the sight for everyone else. We have posters that can't wait to hijack any serious thread with some bullshit line totally off topic. We know who they are and they never fail to disappoint. Their "feelings" are easily hurt. And there are those that are always willing to throw anyone overboard at the first sign of dissent from their own opinion. They call them traitors. Soon there will be no one left if we continue this type of bullshit. Just go to the Lounge where more serious discussion is taking place, I guess?

(edited to take out the one sentence that referenced Stephen Colbert so as not to confuse those brilliant minds that thought the post was about Stephen Colbert)

1. I haven't seen or heard Stephen Colbert's comments directly
I've only read about them, mostly over the Web.

Does not watching TV make me a Bad Democrat or not "progressive" enough for you?

4. OK I admit Colbert was great but COME ON. He didn't solve the
Middle East crisis.

I mean yeah he was good but don't lose control.

7. If you're suggesting that the current climate is different from usual,
I don't see what you mean.

Also, I've found the Lounge more serious than GD many times.

10. It's a wonder you have the constitution to put up with it
I mean people who don't accept the undeniable fact that Colbert's performance was the most important one ever are clearly not just bad democrats. They're bad people.

what is making this place an inhospitable and 'crappy' (please excuse the pun) place to be.

Remarks "like that" need to be made on occasions.

18. As in this case,
to encourage people not to give up the good fight. Realizing that the naysayers are mostly disruptors, and a small minority at that - just a very noisy one, may help people not to give up.

11. I have never seen "The Colbert Report."
so I guess you're talking about me, along with all the other folks out there who can't afford cable or satellite. Mea culpa.

I've seen the video of his performance, though, and find little significance in his remarks, other than 90% of them apparently went over the heads of everyone in that room, judging from the nervously polite applause when he broke stride for it. It was good hearing truth told to power, but power was too damned dumb to recognize it.

Perhaps in the coming months, someone will explain it all to them, and then there might be some significance. In the meantime, most people in this country are as oblivious as the people he was speaking to.

In the meantime, there will always be people here who, like the power elite at that roast, will do their level best to miss the point of any thread. We can gently explain the point and try to get them back on topic or we can just let them rant. The worst thing to do is take it personally, attack, or complain in the hijacked thread. "Alert" was made for the worst of them.

22. The "nervously polite applause"
(and W's nervous grin) was because they did get it - it did not go over their heads, they did recognize it. They were put to shame and they know it. Their only solace is that it wasn't broadcast live on prime-time TV.

14. Good grief.........
You are going to start a divisive post calling people turds because they aren't up to snuff on Colbert? What a bunch of shit. I think Colbert has his moments in comedy and oh woooooo he made fun of Bush and the MSM to their faces...........big whoop. I'll tell ya what...........to come on DU after his lil comedy skit and see 40 bazillion posts on Colbert taking up the entire first page of GD pissed me off. It is really pissing me off to see stupid Colbert posts day after day when a whole lot of other more important things to discuss regarding the political situation is out there to be discussed and room cannot be found for them because of pissy posts like this one.

Fucking hell. Can we talk about something that actually might make a difference in America or the rest of the world rather than Colbert? His 15 minutes of fame was over last Sunday.

20. Touche........BUT...
They also pushed a lot of other posts there as well. Posts that merited discussion and instead received one or two replies while Colber Hysteria swept DU. I do think Colbert delivered a master stroke..........BUT...........I honestly think GD in particular went overboard with so many posts about it..........and here I am talking about it on yet another one.......sheeeesh. Beam me up Scotty.:banghead:

I personally didn't want to resort too using it but with some of the thirteen year old ass hats that are running around on the religion theology forum I had no choice.

23. Locking.
People on DU -- even "good progressives" -- hold different opinions. It does not make them bad people or disruptors. It's well past time that we all accepted that fact.
