A final message from Brownie (this'll make you mad)
Edited on Tue Jan-10-06 11:51 PM by lazarus
This was on the last page of my latest Consumer Reports, so I scanned it.

See? They warned us ahead of time, why'd we get all upset? :banghead:

1. So FEMA was pitching private insurance.

How nice. I bet a lot of businesses would appreciate the gov't marketing for them.

3. More likely the insurance company just reprinted the response they got
from FEMA. You'll note the whole letter was not reproduced, just the last part, so we don't know the context.

And anyway, flooding (e.g.: river overflows its banks) is a heckofalot different than a hurricane going right up through the middle of New Orleans and trashing a whole city.

4. Thing is
A bunch of the damage done in New Orleans is not being paid for by insurance companies. Rationale? It was flooding from the lake, not the hurricane, and those folks had hurricane insurance.

5. Hurricanes are covered under your home owner policy.
Flooding is covered under flood insurance.

I don't know if I was just very lucky or what, but my insurance company paid for my flooding and they also paid for the wind (hurricane) damage; i.e., roof, missing fence, missing shed, etc. I keep hearing these stories and I don't understand why their policies are not covering their losses.

I really feel sorry for anyone who is having a hard time with their insurance companies. I have two separate policies, one for the house and one for flooding.

6. My co-worker's camp was uprooted and tossed 50 yards
..from its original site. She showed me pictures--it was just a pile of wood, and you could see where it had been pried up from the ground. The insurance company said it was the flood that did it. Not the exception, but the rule down here.

10. Is the Magazine name right?CR,if its the one put out by
consumers union, doesn't take ads, is my understanding anyway.

Can someone verify the mag. name? Due diligence you know.

11. The ad was not in the magazine
The ad seems to have been sent in by a reader who received it somewhere else.

12. it was probably in the "Selling It" section, which
prints outrageous ads, etc that readers send in. If you're not familiar with the mag the confusion is understandable. I love the "selling it" section, darkly humorous.

18. That would be great - a genuine example of
Our federal gov't providing advertising for a private industry.

My congressman is Jim Moran, and I thinked he'd be tickled to see that...and perhaps have a use for it...
