Holy MOLEY! Bush to Get His Wish to ABOLISH FEMA?? -->
Fox News Dallas has reported that lawmakers are considering abolishing FEMA. A new congressional report recommends abolishing the agency. A senate panel says FEMA should be abolished and replaced with a new agency that reports directly to the President. The U.S. is completely unprepared for another storm of Katrina's magnitude.

Bush made this happen on purpose. After Katrina, he purposely prevented FEMA from doing its job in getting to ground zero. We all remember stories of how workers were turned away. As we found out later, then head of FEMA, Michael Brown, became the scapegoat.

As many suspected, Bush wanted to create a crisis within FEMA to gut that agency and give the military a stronger role. In other words, Posse Comitatus has always been a liability to the Bush junta and he's trying to do everything in his power to abolish that "pesky" Act.

If another storm comes along, who do you think is going to be the first responder? Not FEMA with the National Guard in a support and coordination role, as has always been the case. You guessed it - the U.S. Military. A banana Republic in the U.S. is about to become a reality.

Anyone say "Dictatorship" yet?

1. They're calling for a BRAND NEW AGENCY to take its place
Which means the taxpayer gets stuck for a bunch of fancy new signs, redecorated offices, and new letterhead stationery. The agency staff will be the same and it will still be a dumping ground for Repug incompetents.

It's lipstick on a pig. Don't buy it.

Throw out BUSH and FEMA will work again the way it was intended.

5. FEMA did work well under Clinton
FEMA would work even better if Bill Clinton was running it today. Can you imagine how many lives would have been saved in New Orleans if Clinton was running it instead of Brownie?

14. FEMA worked well under everybody but this Bush
Carter, Reagan, Bush 1, Clinton-it worked well through all their presidencies.

This Bush has made a mess out of everything, not just FEMA.

3. Of course, the Cons never gave Jimmy Carter credit for FEMA
but they'll dust off the model from Carter, paste G.W. Bush all over it and celebrate like it's an original thought!

FEMA - The Secret Government

Some people have referred to it as the "secret government" of the United States. It is not an elected body, it does not involve itself in public disclosures, and it even has a quasi-secret budget in the billions of dollars. This government organization has more power than the President of the United States or the Congress, it has the power to suspend laws, move entire populations, arrest and detain citizens without a warrant and hold them without trial, it can seize property, food supplies, transportation systems, and can suspend the Constitution.

Not only is it the most powerful entity in the United States, but it was not even created under Constitutional law by the Congress. It was a product of a Presidential Executive Order. No, it is not the U.S. military nor the Central Intelligence Agency, they are subject to Congress. The organization is called FEMA, which stands for the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Originally conceived in the Richard Nixon Administration, it was refined by President Jimmy Carter and given teeth in the Ronald Reagan and George Bush Administrations.

FEMA had one original concept when it was created, to assure the survivability of the United States government in the event of a nuclear attack on this nation. It was also provided with the task of being a federal coordinating body during times of domestic disasters, such as earthquakes, floods and hurricanes. Its awesome powers grow under the tutelage of people like Lt. Col. Oliver North and General Richard Secord, the architects on the Iran-Contra scandal and the looting of America's savings and loan institutions. FEMA has even been given control of the State Defense Forces, a rag-tag, often considered neo-Nazi, civilian army that will substitute for the National Guard, if the Guard is called to duty overseas.

THE MOST POWERFUL ORGANIZATION IN THE UNITED STATES

15. Yep, the laws (executive orders) exist - For Your Protection!
As if that stuff wasn't disturbing enough, now he wants to turn it into a more "military" outfit, probably with hand picked execs and officers. It smells of Junta to me. Somebody needs to break out the Lysol.

7. Do you guys realize that prior to 9/11, Cheney was planning to
streamline all of our emergency issues, national security and all, into FEMA? Does anybody remember that?

8. I heard Collins talking about abolishing FEMA earlier today
All I could think was "WTF?" Rebuild/restructure the agency from the inside out?

This is undoubtedly in response to learning FEMA gave away money it shouldn't have. But what's wrong with FEMA is DHS and the incompetent bastard squatting in the WH. Get rid of their influence and clean FEMA up a bit -- it does need tidying up -- and all is well.

Why do Repugs apply "drastic measures" to things that aren't worthy of such intervention, while ignoring true crises?

It's just another hair-brained excuse for the Rethugs to make a power grab that will leave us completely at BushCo's mercy during the next disaster. And with their record for excelling at killing innocents without trying, that should scare the hell out of us all.

Disaster planning on a shoestring, with guns and without accountability...That's what Bush** has in mind.

11. Re-shuffling the deck chairs on the Titanic.
Why scrap one government agency and create another? It's not like it's a used up old car or something.
You revamp and reorganize the existing agency and get rid of the dead weight. Root out the incompetency and corruption in management. Cut out the dead wood and fire those responsible for it's dismal performance. Now is the time to play the blame game.
I think we all know where the trouble lies.

17. Surely you don't think that they would turn something like this over
to a private company like, oh, let's say, Halliburton do you? :sarcasm:

I wonder if this ties in somehow with the reports we've heard about Halliburton building those new detention centers. :tinfoilhat:
