Tony Snow On President Bush: ‘An Embarrassment'
Edited on Tue Apr-25-06 05:00 PM by Canuckistanian
Tony Snow On President Bush: ‘An Embarrassment,’ ‘Impotent,’ ‘Doesn’t Seem To Mean What He Says’

A few selcted quotes from a great post on Thinkprogress:

http://thinkprogress.org/2006/04/25/snow-on-bush/

– Bush has “lost control of the federal budget and cannot resist the temptation to stop raiding the public fisc.” <3/17/06>

– “When it comes to federal spending, George W. Bush is the boy who can’t say no. In each of his three years at the helm, the president has warned Congress to restrain its spending appetites, but so far nobody has pushed away from the table mainly because the president doesn’t seem to mean what he says.” <The Detroit News, 12/28/03>

– “George W. Bush, meanwhile, talks of a pillowy America, full of niceness and goodwill. Bush has inherited his mother’s attractive feistiness, but he also got his father’s syntax. At one point last week, he stunned a friendly audience by barking out absurd and inappropriate words, like a soul tortured with Tourette’s.” <8/25/00>

Much, much more at the link.....

1. Can Bush accept such personal snarky asides?
Snow is a press secretary, not a political opponent in a primary fight.

6. I encourage people to read the ENTIRE Think Progress article...
...because it's one LONG laundry list of Snow biting the hand that will soon be feeding him. I have every confidence that Tony will be twice the "Baghdad Bob" that Scott McClellan ever THOUGHT of being.

The reason? If you want to believe the standard spin, McClellan was kept in the dark and "honestly" believed his masters had told him the truth.

Anybody walking into the job NOW knows what McClellan KNOWS...and what he "didn't" know.

Think about it.

23. I've said this before...
I think * really does have mild Tourette's Syndrome. Look at how he twitches his head, blinks, and stammers whenever he's surprised with an unscripted question. I do the same thing when I'm nervous.

It is possible to control most of the symptoms while you're in public, but it gets much harder in stressful situations. And since many people with TS also suffer from obsessive-compulsive disorder and ADHD, they tend to feel a lot of stress.

That didn't George HW him from becoming an enthusiastic champion of the economic philosophy that STILL continues to bring this country to its knees.

The Republicans are full of suck-ups. Sucking up is really about the only thing they do anymore. Tony Snow will be a FANTASTIC liar for this inept administration and he will prove his worth from day one. Just you wait and see.

Just wait until all of America hears what Tony really thinks about the guy he is supposed to speak for. BWAHAHAHA.

How is he going to translate "...absurd and inappropriate words..." for his boss, who he says sound "...like a soul tortured with Tourette's"???

I can't wait for the first press conference: "Tony, when you said 'the President doesn't seem to mean what he says' what did you mean?" ... "are you calling the President a liar?" ... "Tony, explain what you meant with 'a soul tortured with Tourette's'"

Tony Snow On President Bush: ‘An Embarrassment,’ ‘Impotent,’ ‘Doesn’t Seem To Mean What He Says’

Fox News’ Tony Snow is expected to be named White House Press Secretary <http://hotlineblog.nationaljournal.com/archives/2006/04/snow_in_late_ap.html>.

Here’s some of what he’s had to say about the President:
– Bush has “lost control of the federal budget and cannot resist the temptation to stop raiding the public fisc.” <3/17/06 <http://www.townhall.com/opinion/column/tonysnow/2006/03/17/190225.html>>

– “George W. Bush and his colleagues have become not merely the custodians of the largest government in the history of humankind, but also exponents of its vigorous expansion.” <3/17/06 <http://www.townhall.com/opinion/column/tonysnow/2006/03/17/190225.html>>

– “President Bush distilled the essence of his presidency in this year’s State of the Union Address: brilliant foreign policy and listless domestic policy.” <2/3/06 <http://www.townhall.com/opinion/column/tonysnow/2006/03/17/190225.html>>

– “George Bush has become something of an embarrassment.” <11/11/05 <http://www.townhall.com/opinion/columns/tonysnow/2005/11/11/175174.html>>

– Bush “has a habit of singing from the Political Correctness hymnal.” <10/7/05 <http://www.townhall.com/opinion/columns/tonysnow/2005/10/07/159692.html>>

– “No president has looked this impotent this long when it comes to defending presidential powers and prerogatives.” <9/30/05 <http://www.townhall.com/opinion/columns/tonysnow/2005/09/30/158842.html>>

– Bush “has given the impression that is more eager to please than lead, and that political opponents can get their way if they simply dig in their heels and behave like petulant trust-fund brats, demanding money and favor — now!” <9/30/05 <http://www.townhall.com/opinion/columns/tonysnow/2005/09/30/158842.html>>

– “When it comes to federal spending, George W. Bush is the boy who can’t say no. In each of his three years at the helm, the president has warned Congress to restrain its spending appetites, but so far nobody has pushed away from the table mainly because the president doesn’t seem to mean what he says.” http://www.libertypost.org/cgi-bin/readart.cgi?ArtNum=47839&Disp=53&Trace=on>>

– “The president doesn’t seem to give a rip about spending restraint.” http://www.libertypost.org/cgi-bin/readart.cgi?ArtNum=47839&Disp=53&Trace=on>>

– “Bush, for all his personal appeal, ultimately bolstered his detractors’ claims that he didn’t have the drive and work ethic to succeed.” <11/16/00 <http://www.townhall.com/opinion/columns/tonysnow/2000/11/16/167623.html>>

– “Little in the character of demeanor of Al Gore or George Bush makes us say to ourselves: Now, this man is truly special! Little in our present peace and prosperity impels us to say: Give us a great man!” <8/25/00 <http://www.townhall.com/opinion/columns/tonysnow/2000/08/25/160026.html>>

– “George W. Bush, meanwhile, talks of a pillowy America, full of niceness and goodwill. Bush has inherited his mother’s attractive feistiness, but he also got his father’s syntax. At one point last week, he stunned a friendly audience by barking out absurd and inappropriate words, like a soul tortured with Tourette’s.” <8/25/00 <http://www.townhall.com/opinion/columns/tonysnow/2000/08/25/160026.html>>

– “He recently tried to dazzle reporters by discussing the vagaries of Congressional Budget Office economic forecasts, but his recitation of numbers proved so bewildering that not even his aides could produce a comprehensible translation. The English Language has become a minefield for the man, whose malaprops make him the political heir not of Ronald Reagan, but Norm Crosby.” <8/25/00 <http://www.townhall.com/opinion/columns/tonysnow/2000/08/25/160026.html>>

– “On the policy side, he has become a classical dime-store Democrat. He gladly will shovel money into programs that enjoy undeserved prestige, such as Head Start. He seems to consider it mean-spirited to shut down programs that rip-off taxpayers and mislead supposed beneficiaries.” <8/25/00 <http://www.townhall.com/opinion/columns/tonysnow/2000/08/25/160026.html>>

46. Yeah, the WH spin is that this shows
that they are receptive to different voices. I heard that on my local NBC affiliate this morning.

And what's with Joe Lockhart!!??

http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=10000103&sid=aa9LW7uFUC3c

Lockhart said he expected the news media would highlight the more controversial comments Snow has made on the air at Fox. That may actually work to the administration's benefit if Republican voters conclude ``liberal reporters are attacking the press secretary,'' he said.

Those damn liberal reporters! Attacking Tony Snow WITH HIS OWN WORDS!

Lets not forget Tony Snow's years and years of kissing Bush and GOP ass...

Every time he criticizes Bush, he is careful to add in something like "But the Democrats aren't any better"

...that they are monumentally stupid. This isn't a crafty move, this isn't them bringing in dissenting voices (Snow will have NO role in actually creating policy). Just more whitewash PR bullshit from the White House where image is everything, and substance is non-existant.
