2. Oh man, does this mean the Republican controlled Congress...
won't hold hearings?

These pseudo-hearings only soothe the Democratic base and have no lasting effects.

6. Pat Roberts heads Intel Committee and he is a WH fixer.
Specter has a thousand times more integrity than Roberts. Roberts does whatever Cheney and Rove tell him to do.

coverage and has no influence on legislation.

Can't decide if it's better than nothing or not.

10. I agree...
as already said below, they will have no subpoena power. It's clear that the WH hasn't been sharing all of their intelligence information with congress (as on the Iraq issues), why would we believe that the NSA would? There will be lots of questions asked, much speculation, few (if any) answers found, but many will feel better because the Democrats seem to be "doing something" about it.

12. I tend to agree
Even if the hearing really does produce new and interesting revelations, they can just be denounced as the product of a partisan panel, rather than an objective investigatory body.

I remember when "The Nation" magazine did an extensive study of the 2000 election in Florida, finding numerous problems with cyber Jim Crow, systematic voter disenfranchisement and intimidation. Yet, I could not get anyone to take it seriously, because "the Nation" was "partisan". Much like how we would all react when one of these quack conservative think tanks produces a study of tax policy or alleged corruption in the Clinton White House--it kind of goes in one ear and out the other.

Edited on Tue Jan-10-06 05:56 PM by SlipperySlope
Do they have any authority, or is it just "feel good"?

8. Probably in the basement of the House, on C-SPAN 3
Those aren't real hearings; they lack subpeona power, and are largely ignored by the media.

something - the rest of Congress is apparently worthless when it comes to doing their job. Are you going to criticize the few people who are actually trying to do something?

14. Dana? Dana is that you?
Sorry but I dont think this shit makes anyone feel good. I haven't felt good since 9/11. The more treachery I see the less good I feel.

Not to jump ya but honestly, "feel good" is just not very apt.
