Anti-War Music
Picture this scenario...

You are sprawled out in the middle of your living room floor, surrounded by colored pens, markers, glue, and poster board, busily putting together your latest protest sign.

To get yourself into your, ''I am going to single-handedly end the War in Iraq with this as-of-yet-unfinished protest sign'' mood, you turn on the radio for inspiration, and hear...

BRITNEY SPEARS?!?!?!

No more, friends!!!

Go to www.shockedandawful.com/Tunes.html

Enjoy

6. If you find any more...
floating out there on the net, please post it here, or contact me and my webpage, www.shockedandawful.com

Not that there weren't any good protest songs in years gon past - there most certainly was, but I'm trying to keep all of the songs contemporary, for what I beleive are obvious reasons.

16. Here's my post from yesterday, OneAngryDemocrat:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.ph...

I think I'll do the DU Jukebox once a month, so everyone PM your ideas or the links to any threads like this. It's impossible to keep track of in reality, but the idea is to at least partially reflect the songs that people are talking about the most on DU, so for the most part, I plan to stick to the most recent stuff, too.

7. Thanks. Those are great.
Have you ever heard "Zombie" by the Cranberries? Here are the lyrics:

Another head hangs lowly,
Child is slowly taken.
And the violence caused such silence,
Who are we mistaken?

But you see, it's not me, it's not my family.
In your head, in your head they are fighting,
With their tanks and their bombs,
And their bombs and their guns.
In your head, in your head, they are crying...

In your head, in your head,
Zombie, zombie, zombie,
Hey, hey, hey. What's in your head,
In your head,
Zombie, zombie, zombie?
Hey, hey, hey, hey, oh, dou, dou, dou, dou, dou...

Another mother's breakin',
Heart is taking over.
When the vi'lence causes silence,
We must be mistaken.

It's the same old theme since nineteen-sixteen.
In your head, in your head they're still fighting,
With their tanks and their bombs,
And their bombs and their guns.
In your head, in your head, they are dying...

In your head, in your head,
Zombie, zombie, zombie,
Hey, hey, hey. What's in your head,
In your head,
Zombie, zombie, zombie?
Hey, hey, hey, hey, oh, oh, oh,
Oh, oh, oh, oh, hey, oh, ya, ya-a...

12. Ok, that made me tear-up
Ian Rhett's song "I didn't know I was un-American" reminded me of when I was
with Peace Fresno, in conservative Fresno, Ca. before the war.

There was a group that would protest against us across the street. Every Friday we were yelled out. Sometimes people would park their car and come over and yell in our face. Usually it was the buffed guy in his tight shirt that got out of his shiny new truck. One day, we were surround by Conservative Jews that called us Jew Haters.. they were invited by the Freepers who protested us everyweek. It only took that one Friday for the majority of the Conservative Jews to realize they were being used by the Fundamentalist Freepers.

I think Ian's song was in my soul during those times.

I also especially like Pink's song. I makes me cry, just as much as Elvis's In the Ghetto song, and Marvin Gaye's song.

Thank you so much for this site, it is what I needed.

I have the CD.

I wanted to compile only those songs, however, that were created for the Iraq war, exclusively.

So the 'berries are out.

17. Last Night I had the strangest dream
Garth Brooks has remade "Last Night I had the Strangest Dream" its on his "The Lost Sessions cd.

Last night I had the strangest dream
I ever dreamed before
'Cause I dreamed the world
Had all agreed to put an end to war

I dreamed I saw a mighty room
Filled with women and men
And the papers they were signing said
They'd never fight again

And when the papers were all signed
And a million copies made
They all joined hands and they bowed their heads
And grateful prayers were prayed

And the people in the streets below
Were dancing 'round and 'round
And swords and guns and uniforms
Were scattered on the ground

(Repeat Chorus)

18. Queensryche's Operation Mindcrime 2 is now out...
It's "I'm American" busts Bush right in the chops straight out of the gate.

"If you voted for the man youre wasting time.
Hes got his fingers dipped in everyones pie.
The news cant wait to promote
all the bullshit this government is selling."

--snip--

"What do you believe in?
What are you living for?
Do you want what theyre selling you,
another television war?"

:bounce:

:woohoo:

23. Oh, yeah...
That the song most people know. But the original Operation Mindcrime was a groundbreaking concept album and well worth listening to. Empire was their first commercial success and a bit of a disappointment to fans in some respect. Light and fluffy in comparison to some of their earlier works.

19. Can I suggest one?
My hubby has a CD and this one tune is inspired by our frustration over this illegal war and all resource wars. It is called "the Circle is Broken". His Web Site is http://DMcLean.com and the link to the song is: http://dmclean.com/anti_war/circle_is_broken.mp3

I like your site and if you like the song, you have my permission to post it.

We really want to share it...
the Lyrics are:

The Circle Is Broken

What do I do I dont know what to say?
The world is changing round me every day
Im strugglng with a sense that somethings wrong
All that I hold dear could soon be gone

We have eyes but still choose not to see
The desperate lives of those who cannot flee
They live on land not fit for you and I
In these places they will live and die

Chorus:
Where is my voice? I swear Ill find it
The circle is broken, now we must bind it
Joining as one to end this violence
All our voices will end this silence

The Christian, Muslim, Buddhist, and the Jew
Are struggling to prove their faith is true
We all want to feed our family and friends
But do our actions justify the ends?

No prophet ever said to hate and kill
Or terrorize the innocent at will
Or take away from all of those who toil
Or make more right the ones who take the oil

Chorus:
Where is my voice? I swear Ill find it
The circle is broken, now we must bind it
Joining as one to end this violence
All our voices will end this silence

You must resolve the conflict in your heart
If you are to find a place to start
You cannot be afraid of who you are
If there is doubt you will not get far

Final chorus:
Where is our voice? I swear well find it
The circle is broken, now we must bind it
Joining as one to end this violence
All our voices will end this silence

25. Gotta have Killing Joke in there...
Total Invasion (from their eponymous 2003 album)

Just enough water to ensurface the world
Oil baron running the government
So I'll start a war

All votes invalid
Use any old lie
Gonna carve up your wealth, like pumpkin pie
Only fools won't realise and won't be told that empires run on the old black gold

It's a global abrasion
It's consecration
United Nations
It's a total invasion!

Terrify them
Complete submission
This is our goal, this is our mission
Destroy your customs
You'll have no say
We'll clothe your women in the western way

I's a fucking crusade
A lesson trade
So all you intellectuals
We're gonna invade

The final push
The last battle
Even restored?
Man is cattle
We want your oil
We want your land
We'll take your welth
You'll have much less
We'll change your God to the Bitch Goddess
