4. I already asked my step-daughter who got nabbed by
Jehovah Witnesses this. See, they don't celebrate holidays because they are pagan.

So I asked her about the days of the week and she stood there with this confused look, (like gee, no one ever mentioned that they were of pagan origin). She said she would have to ask her "elder" about it.

Later, after talking with elder, she said that the days of the week are okay bec they are necessary for daily communication etc.

What a crock!

11. Maybe they aren't
as stupid as we like to think.

Maybe they are more focused on getting their agenda enacted than they are on insignificant symbols like this. Especially as they have been around for millenia, not just the past 40-60 years.

Maybe they are not easily distracted from their aims.

Maybe we could learn something from them in this regard.

Just a thought.

14. The same reason they get their shorts in a bunch
over Hallowe'en while it never occurs to them to wonder why "Easter" is caled "Easter" and is celebrated with bunnies and eggs. They're not big on anything approaching actual research. It's...um...too scientific.

16. The Quakers used to object to those names as pagan.
That's why they referred to the days at First Day, Second Day, etc. They also named the months the same way.

18. The Catholic Church actually did, centuries ago. Only Portugal complied.
And even they did not comply totally. Names of week days in Portuguese are:

Domingo
Segunda-feira (second fair)
Terça-feira (third fair)
Quarta-feira (I'm sure you get the drill by now)
Quinta-feira
Sexta-feira
Sábado

Note that Sunday and Saturday were left alone.
