Karma's a bitch
Edited on Fri Dec-21-07 10:43 PM by SCRUBDASHRUB
I hope I'm not wishing any bad karma on myself, but I just have to tell this true story. Just found out this information tonight.

As some of you may know, in January, after working for a company for only 4 months, I was let go with no warning and for no reason (live in an at-will state; reason given was "not a good fit."). I had left a job I'd been at for seven years to go to a place that promised career growth, stability, etc. It's a long story, but I think what wound up happening was someone else in the dept. had been offered the position before I got there, declined and then changed her mind. I found out later that they wound up hiring someone pretty much straight out of college to replace me (someone with 14 years of experience in my field). The woman who fired me didn't even say goodbye to me, and I'd known her for at least 8 years prior to working for her.

I was out of work for 5 months (thank G-d for unemployment), and have been working since June for this cool company (renewable energy).

Anyway, I rarely watch the local news at 10 PM, but tonight, I decided to check it out.

The woman who fired me was being featured because some young kids broke into her house and stole all of her Christmas presents...$3,000 worth. When I was working there, I was not allowed to take off the day after T-giving, due to "seniority". I remember her telling me how she loves to get up really early the day after T-giving to go shopping.

Is it wrong for me to feel, how do I put this, somewhat snickery that this happened to her? She wasn't hurt, thankfully, but she really fucked me over big time.

1. It's human nature...
The Germans actually have a special word for it.... schadenfreude. It means finding pleasure in someone else's misfortune. Most people don't wish for harm to others, but even if we don't admit it, there is a sense of satisfaction when someone we feel has wronged us has to cash in on some "negative karma."

So, no, that doesn't make you a bitch. It makes you human!

2. What goes around, comes around.
I second what Lisa says.

WOman sounds like a real witch with a capital B.

5. Maybe her karma will run over her dogma
It's the little joys in life. As someone said, what comes around, goes around.

I always believed in the saying that you should be nice to the people you meet on the way up, because you'll be passing them on the way down.

I've been summarily fired from places I thought I'd done a good job at. Sometimes it's business, sometimes it's personality (yours or theirs), sometimes you'll never know. I've stopped wasting sleep on it, and also stopped wondering why I didn't get some particular job after what seemed like impeccable interviews. You won't know, and no one's going to tell you. The heck with it.

And frankly, I like dogmas. I'm allergic to catmas, however. Their karmas can run over all the catmas they like. It's okay with me.
