Anybody else doing coconut oil?
I am adding it to Atkins. It is supposed to rev up the metabolism and cause you to lose weight! It has to be unrefined though! I am substituting it for other fats! I'll let you know in a week!

2. I just tried this for 2 months....
and gained weight, although it did clear up my dry skin patches and boosted my energy levels. (I was not doing Atkins - did that last year with limited results and growing aversion to meats....:-))

Now I am limiting myself and trying to eat a sober, wholefoods and nutrient rich diet using the Fitday.com tools to help keep tabs of things.
And will continue to use the unrefined coconut oil in smaller amounts as a sub for other oils/fats. I love the taste of this oil, and use olive oil for when I don't want the coconut taste.

The best result I ever had with weight loss was 20 years ago after havivng my babies following a Macrobiotic diet, so now I will try returning to it while adding some fish to the menu.

:hi:

3. I really have to try it, DemExpat. Growing up in Florida, it was one
of the most prominent oils in use, but then got beat up badly because of high fat content, along with palm oil.

4. You probably know this, but the really important thing is
UNrefined coconut oil. Any other form is still bad for us.

It's got some incredible benefits to it, and I am using it some in my own cooking. I can't say I've seen any particular results, but then I'm not sure I'll be able to separate any results from other things I'm doing at this point.

There's a good book out -- The Coconut Diet by Cherie Calbom -- I'd suggest borrowing it from the library instead of investing in it, at least to start. It reveals how coconut oil got demonized, explains its many health benefits, and has some recipes and meal plans. It could fit in with South Beach or other programs, I think.
