Great comment on Jake Tapper's article on Obama's grandmother
link:

I do not think Barack Obama's grandmother is a "typical white persons". During, what- the 50's(?), Obama's grandmother had a African American Muslim son-in-law. The 60's/70's, his grandmother helped raise a bi-racial grandson. Also, during this time, Obama's mother remarried to another African American Muslim man.

This is NOT a "typical" white American grandmother of her time period.

For the life of me, I will never understand why Barack tossed his grandmother under the bus. He used her as a political talking point in his Tuesday speech. Totally, out of line! As was the Ferraro characterization. There is a huge difference between Ferraro and Rev. Wright.

As a bi-racial man, who voted for Barack Obama. I will say, I will not vote for him in the general election.

Barack was challenged this week, by his own judgment call. He played politics as usual, to get out of a situation he supported for years. That's not the change I voted for.

1. "Typical white person" really means "stereotypical white person"- Barney Frank
on the Maher show last night (all I caught - no stomach for that)

The speech offended many on a personal level - me, as a parent, on behalf of that grandmother. The ingratitude is so glaring, it hurts!

3. Good to hear no-nonsense Barney is making himself heard.
He's the best.

Usually, when I already have my mind made up about something (it's always for good reasons), nobody can talk me out of it. I have, however, had various opinions refreshed by Barney and always consider changing my position. That's how much stock I put in his view of things.

4. There isn't much more
sacred to most Americans than their moms and their grandmothers. Using his grandmother in an unflattering way to make a point, at least to me, says a lot about his character (or lack thereof.)

2. Oh, and here's another memorable comment there:

"There is nothing more painful to me ... than to walk down the street and hear footsteps and start thinking about robbery, then look around and see somebody white and feel relieved."

spoken by Jesse Jackson a "typical white person" I guess

Not only has Obama stepped in it but he is tracking it all over the carpet.

5. So what he is saying is being a racist is genetic.... pathetic
Edited on Sat Mar-22-08 01:23 PM by judaspriestess
"the point I was making was not that my grandmother harbors any racial animosity. She doesn't. But she is a typical white person, who, if she sees somebody on the street that she doesn't know, well there's a reaction that's in our experiences that won't go away and can sometimes come out in the wrong way. And that's just the nature of race in our society. We have to break through it."

on edit::crazy:

I'm so glad I'm not a "typical white person" :silly:

6. From what I see, there is a lot...
of anger out there for Obama's words. The MSM seems to be trying to place Obama's statements in "context." Has anyone noticed that? It's a code word for "he didn't really mean to say anything racist; he really loves his grandmother and he's trying to be president because he has to straighten out all the white people in this country."

In other words, he wants to bring us all together. Blech!

Everytime he opens his mouth I put my hands over my ears.
