"The Rules" - Your Thoughts?
Which ones would you throw out, and which do you think are keepers?

I've grown fond of:

Do not offer your phone number if it hasn't been asked for.
Do not call him if he passes you his.
If he passes you his, and also asks for yours - still don't call him.

1. I never offer my phone number.
And if he gives me his number, and communication has gotten to the point that I will call him, I never leave my number on his voice mail (when he doesn't answer). It's a while until I give up my number.

2. Hah. I gave my husband my number w/out asking for his.
I've never read the rules, but seeing that one gave me a chuckle!

I gave it on Saturday, he called me on Wednesday.

It's been 15 years.

3. My husband took me home from a party almost 33 years ago
and I didn't think he'd remember my number so I just told him to call information. It turns out that I wasn't listed, even though I had been paying an extra 50 cents a month to be listed along with my roommate. Fortunately, he came by to see me a few days later. We've been married 31 years.

If my daughters had followed "the rules," they wouldn't have started seeing and later marrying their husbands.

6. That's An Interesting Tidbit
About you and your husband. The explanations I've seen for that particular 'rule' are along the lines of, 'if he really wants to get ahold of you, he will find a way to,' (including asking for your #). Your story bears that out.

7. That's true!
And in the case of each married daughter, the future husband was initially rebuffed. :)

4. It's silly.
The basis of long term relationships should be shared values, friendship, and compatibility in terms of intimacy. The Rules are playing silly games and stretching the truth (or lying). It's ridiculous.

5. They're stupid.
It didn't matter if I played by them or not, because it seems like...until I wised up and found better guys, nothing mattered in terms of how I acted. They were going to treat me like crap no matter what.

8. Sounds to me...
...like those rules are to protect that fragile Male Ego.
