This sucks. My therapist who I've been going to for almost two
Edited on Tue Mar-22-05 10:12 PM by SCRUBDASHRUB
years I think has quit the practice. I have to find another one, which makes me feel like I'm starting all over again. Frustrating!! The doctor's office has cancelled now three appts., and today I get a message that she's "no longer seeing patients." WTF? Maybe I should switch practices? Anyone been through this before (I have anxiety/depression issues (colitis, too))?

1. My Urologist Retired Suddenly This Month
Comes at a particularly bad time for me; I'm having the fifth kidney infection in four months, complicated by a stone in the left kidney and scarring from previous infections, plus I'm already in early kidney failure, so yeah, I know what you're going through! Good luck finding a new therapist you like as well.

2. You think that's bad
my wonderful Neurologist, the man who quickly diagnosed me (with MS), got me on my meds fast and thus saved me from possibly having a disability, died two years ago. He was the most wonderful physician I have ever met and he suddenly died. He was only in his early 50's and he suffered a heart attack. 600 people showed up at his funeral, and this is a pretty small town. Now I don't have a good Neuro to monitor my condition so I tend to bounce around from doctor to doctor. Sometimes I feel like I know more about MS than they do. The only advice I have, is just keep trying new therapists until you find one you trust and like (I'm still looking), then try like hell to keep them!

I would start with your state's medical board. They should have a website where you can do research on any potential candidates.

You have my sympathy, I totally understand.

5. Thanks for the sympathy and the advice. That sucks about
your neurologist (so sad; died way too young). I know what you mean about feeling like you know more about your illness than the doctors.

3. Are they willing to give you a reference?
Granted, they sometimes won't, but I would think they would give you some sort of guidance.

One thing you might try (I've done this concerning my son) is to print a list from my medical insurance site of approved providers, and the doc has offered recommendations of who to call.

Good luck--that sounds very hard to take. Keep us informed of how you are doing.

6. I went online this morning and found a couple of providers in
the same practice. I called the intake coordinator and was referred to another therapist. The earliest appt. they could give me is in three weeks. Grrr...

I feel bad if the therapist is leaving for a family emergency or whatever (I mean life happens to all of us); it's just the way things were handled from the practice's end was pretty crappy. Hopefully, this therapist will be as good if not better than the one I was seeing.

Thanks for listening y'all.

7. Update: I went to my new therapist last week, and even though
I've only seen her once, so far she seems really nice.

8. Well, That's A Plus
At least you find one you think you can work with. That's good considering that you were worried about losing your other one.

Thanks for the update.

9. I was worried (it had been 2 months since I'd been to one, which seemed
like a lifetime). Thanks for being sweet and replying, Professor. :)

10. Sweet? Me?
I think you have the wrong guy! Even my wife wouldn't say that!

I'm less sweet than a unripened lemon.
