Guess who's having a convention in St. Louis.
The Romance Writers of America (that's not the convention's real title, it's Romancing something or other) and they have a lot of the cover models there today. The two writers they interviewed on the noon news said the models were the biggest attraction as they were rather scantily clothed. Thought about Botany when they said that. The one writer had two BA's, one in history and the other in education, and the other specialized in Chinese studies before giving it all up to write romances. My question is: then why does the writing usually suck? These aren't uneducated women!

:loveya: KO, does anybody at MSNBC think Blivet will say anything tonight that is'nt self-serving and/or divorced from reality? Will he say anything that could'nt be summarized in one short paragraph? Does MSNBC fondly think he'll answer even remotely tough, substantive questions? Inquiring minds want to know!

1. apparently CBS doesn't think so
because the buzz on a GD thread is that CBS will stick to its normal programming tonight! When was the last time that happened for a Presidential press conference?! :woohoo:

2. Just read that Fox is not showing it either.

When it's a choice between money and a Blivet speech, Fox goes for the money everytime. Of course they realize Blivet's speech won't amount to a hill of beans.

It does not look good when the President stands up to talk and nobody listens. :nopity:

5. The networks should just let C-SPAN cover it live and unedited.
. . . I don't like the idea of the WH determining whether we get to see our favorite shows. x(

Why does MSNBC have to fall in line? Maybe things will be dif. after * contributor Gates gets out. (We can celebrate the SECOND "removal of the Gates" then!)

6. Why does MSNBC have to fall in line?
Come on - these are the same guys who gave us the LIVE COVERAGE of the all-important, earth-shattering BASEBALL HEARINGS!

What are you - unAmerican?

7. Dear Rev & SwissBob - In my opinion ...
. . . * and the administration should "find a flag so they can wave GOODBYE" (to quote Phil Ochs).

I'd rather watch baseball hearings any day of the week, than have to wash my TV set out with strong lye soap after one of these presidential propaganda sessions. :puke:

I'll be watching Woody Allen on Turner Classic Movies at 8 tonight.

4. Not so much that the writing sucks as that they're writing to a FORMAT--
. . . so it's pretty predictable. Like what radio formats were becoming for a while -- you knew what the playlist was before you even started listening. They're starting to get away from that now -- probably because it's no fun for the people who work there!

I like my music, literature, *NEWS* with lots of unexpected twists and turns. Countdown gives me that. And with the group supplementing Botany's writing, the Gull Bay saga gives us a lot of the unexpected as well!

8. Believe it or not, there ARE good romance novels
and if you want to find recommendations on them, you should visit:

www.mrsgiggles.com

This woman makes me LOL sometimes with her novel reviews (as you can see, she also likes to review stuff like TV, but that's another story). She likes well-written romances, but when she reads one she thinks is boring, stupid, formulaic or just plain bad, her review is a full-out hilarious snarkathon. Some of the funniest reviews you will read are of the books she gave her lowest ratings to.

I enjoy her reviews because she approaches the project from the standpoint of actually liking the genre...which means she's genuinely looking for something good in all the dreck, and when she finds it, she will say so. But she hates stupid, whiny, wimpy heroines and brain-dead heroes...as well as dopey plotlines and bad dialogue...and attacks them with glee.

Read and enjoy! And I'll try to forget that when I first saw the title of this thread I thought "WHAT?!? Keith's having a convention in St. Louis!?!?!?"

9. You can always fall back on the Bronte sisters.
. . . Or better yet, forward.
