I like the little glasses and the seahorses, there's also a lobster (remember Bubba the Lobster?). Again, not sure if there are extra longs and it might not be a retail site.

76. I haven't heard if anyone else likes the eyeties Crispi. Sharon doesn't
like little animals on any of the ties and it seems the eyeties have only little animals or stripes (what we are trying to avoid I think).

Check out Sharon's Pangborn collection, specifically the bottom one she posted. We would definitely know he was wearing our tie and it would go great with the goose brown suit.

78. I like the idea of eyeties. The little animals don't bother me
because when you think about looking at the tie from a distance of several feet (which is how we'd normally see it), the little animals fade into some indistinguishable blob on the fabric. I'm not that crazy about some of the background colors for the animals but I'm not dead set against them, either. Early days yet. And although I'd like to avoid getting another stripe, if we saw a really nice eyetie stripe, I could go for that.

in that the small pattern fades away.

I'm just enchanted with the idea of a tie that's both decorative AND functional. But I'm weird like that, I like things that do two things at once.

87. I still don't like the animals
They're okay from far away and would probably look okay on TV, but it's not like no one will ever see them up close and I think we should get something that will look good from any vantage point. That being said, I'll go along with whatever everyone else wants to do, but I think we have enough other ones to choose from.

I sent an e-mail to Pangborn to see if we can order a tie in extra long. If I don't hear back soon, I can call them. They are a local design firm and their only brick and mortar stores are in Michigan -- one at the airport, one downtown and I think one other one -- and the Virgin Islands.

I've met Dominic Pangborn several times. He's a really nice guy and his story is very interesting. He was born in Korea, but his parents sent him to the US when he was 10 so he could have a better life. He was adopted by a family in Jackson, Michigan, and is extremely talented and very, very successful. I've been to his studio and his firm has done some graphic design work for us in years past. Take a look around at the whole site in addition to the ties, if you're interested. There's a bio posted somewhere.

this one, which may be too busy for television:

http://www.josbank.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Merchant_Id=1&Section_Id=1540&pcount=&Product_Id=299246

I'm thinking the lightest tie of the trio, the one with the dark gold background. Click the the "click color below for a larger view" to get an extreme close-up, which gives the best idea of what the actual colors in the tie are. This is a feature I don't remember being on their website last year and I think it's helpful.

and here's a paisley that is fugly close up, but at a distance, with the brown suit, might look good. I'm thinking the "gold" background (they call it gold, I'd call it orange):

http://www.josbank.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Merchant_Id=1&Section_Id=1540&pcount=&Product_Id=281572

on edit: I saw some solids on this website, but none of the colors started my engine.

32. I like the first one better because of the sheen
and because the tie, all by itself, is attractive. The second one, close up, is awful, but as far away as the camera would be, it would come across as an orange-red with a not-very-discernible design. I'm not that fond of the color of the Target Suit (LOL, that makes it look like he bought it at Target!), but it's a nice fit on the jacket. I'd be happy if he'd keep the TS (there, that looks better) in favor of permanently retiring the light grey suit that still pops up on occasion. Hmm... wonder what a light blue shirt (the color ringing the ovals) would look like with that first tie and the TS?

Edited on Tue Jan-10-06 03:42 PM by gkhouston
He does have a brown suit that is exactly the shade of #3, but he's had that for some time and it doesn't fit so well. At a guess, the older brown suit was probably acquired at about the same time as the light gray one; there's something about the cut I can't verbalize that makes me think they're of the same vintage. Might even be the same tailor.

Looking back at tie #1, the blue is too dark for a matching shirt to work with the newer brown suit. I'm not sure about a pale orange, though. Perhaps bone would be safer.

on edit: the light grey suit and the older brown suit look like he bought them off the rack. The newer brown suit and the one he wore last night were either made for him or are much more expensive ready-to-wear.

isn't it the one the shade of #3 that he wears with the mint chocolate chip tie? I had no idea he had more than one brown suit, apparently I haven't been paying attention lately.

Let's get him a fedora to go with the Boss Hijack outfit.

#3 is close to the color of the suit he wears with the mint chocolate chip tie but that isn't quite it. That color is a little too light and green, at least on my computer.

on edit: the older brown suit is one he wore when he was on the Tonight show a year or so ago.

Hopefully, if you click on these links, it will take you to a page which allows you to zoom in really close on the patterns. Yu just have to wait a second for it to redraw its pixels after you zoom. If we must enable that ugly goose-shit brown suit, here are some suggestions. Some just go with that one, some can be worn with several suits, some might be too close or far from that color that they'll clash, but I tried. :). There are so many ties here that I've just picked a few. I also love the Hermes ties. All of them, the ones with the little animals (very cute bunny, bunny!) like the little hippo, or the ones with the stirrups and "H"s.

#2 --> I like this one A LOT. Very tasteful. I think it's sort of Keith's style too.

#4 --> Not bad, but not a favorite.

of them will be long enough. Once you have to go XL it cuts down on your choices considerably, which may be why KO wears so many of the same type of boring striped ties in the first place, from lack of choices in his size. That's why I thought a really nice silk solid tie might be our best find. I'm still looking for one.

from that collection with a small flower at the top and very simple, bottom has two rectangles of pattern, starts with an N. I'll go find it, it would be subtle under the buttoned suit and more committed when the suit jacket was unbuttoned.

I think this bottom tie (above) could work, the subtlety of the colors offset the patterning, and it would look awesome with the 'duck shit' brown suit.

too brown. Keith chooses his own ties so I think we should take our cues from him, otherwise, we'll never see him wear our tie. KO appears to like bright, shiny ties. I liked his lilac colored one with the matching shirt. Has anyone ever noticed him wearing a brown tie? Don't get so hung up on the GSB suit, there's probably no way to improve a suit you hate so much you call it GSB.

118. actually, I don't hate the GSB suit. It fits him well enough; it's just
not my favorite color on him. I view tie-shopping for the GSB suit as an act of self-defense: he only got the suit last summer, so he's not going to be retiring it any time soon. On the other hand, he's had it for several months now and still doesn't have a tie/shirt combination that works with it. If we select one that complements the GSB suit, there's a chance that he'll adopt it as part of his regular GSB ensemble and we'll be spared any further "experiments".

Yeah, some of these ties don't look like what he wears now -- and how many striped ties was he wearing last January?

115. Naked and Angry
No, I'm not describing my current state.

"Anyone can come to Naked & Angry and submit a design for a fabric pattern to be voted on by other Naked & Angry users. The designs are scored for 7 days and then given a final score. The highest scoring designs are manufactured and products are created from the fabric. The winners receive a $500 cash prize and 5 free Naked & Angry items.

Our first producs where a batch of neckties. The quality of the pieces produced is the number one priority. Recently, our packaging was showcased at a trade show in Las Vegas and won the award for best retail packaging in the show!"

Too late for this year, but could be an interesting thing to keep in mind.
