Here's a great Larry Johnson article on the fallacy of national security: http://www.tpmcafe.com/section/politics

The National Security Red Herring
By Larry Johnson | bio
From: Politics

"Definition: A Red Herring is a fallacy in which an irrelevant topic is presented in order to divert attention from the original issue.

Caught with his hand in the proverbial cookie jar, President Bush is working feverishly to divert attention from the fact that he has subverted the FISA law by claiming that the revelation in the New York Times of the NSA spying program has jeopardized national security and given the terrorists a hand. Sorry Mr. President that dog don't hunt."

It's not legal, Georgie. It doesn't even matter if it's only one.

"perfect Aryan youth", neglecting to consider what they youth look like when they're older and stuffed with expensive food.

There's a great metaphor here about how they're geese, fatted up to make pate, like the critters who've surrendered their livers to be kept by the Corpocracy, but I can't quite make it out.

77. OK, here's the story
Dana spent the whole show (beginning before KO was even on) complaining because she'd gone to Starbucks to get a low-fat vanilla coffee just before the show and they forgot to put the VANILLA in it. This put her in a foul mood for the show and she didn't even want to drink the coffee. Later on when KO came in, she explained this to him. He told her that maybe from now on she should just carry her own vanilla syrup with her.

Dana also made sure to mention at some point during the show that she was also cranky because she didn't have any New Year's plans. Er. Cough cough. Hint hint.

104. I truly know nothing about Keith's dating life.
I'm just making jokes because it seems as if they get along really, really well on the air.

Anyway, I couldn't help but tease because this is yet another incident in which Keith implied that some guy or other is such a nerd that he has no dates. He does the same with the Star Wars fans. Yet KO insists his own life consists of surfing the Internets and going on the air. So...should people in glass houses throw stones (or paper wads)?

Keith, are you envious of Tom Jones's panty take?

I missed Dick Clark on New Year's Eve. He wasn't on for long. Now I can see why.

Do y'all know the origin of the term "basket case"? During the "Great War", physicians were skilled enough to do four amputations and keep the wounded soldier alive. Sorry for the ghastly imagery folks.

In addition, the category is "worst in the world" and shrub qualifies for "worst in the universe"

99. I am surprised Keith never heard of that coffee before.
I remember hearing about it ages ago. And thinking "Who would be dumb enough to pay good money for that?"

Then again, you probably don't want to think too hard about how bees make honey. (No, they don't crap it out, but it's yet another case of something you eat having been, ah, processed through another creature's body first.)

97. Oh WOW!!!
Edited on Mon Jan-02-06 09:10 PM by Greylyn58
I was watching my favorite Monday night show--Surface. Tonight was the first new show since it went into reruns) and Keith was on it playing himself. I just about choked.

If you've never seen it, it's about some people who discover a new species in the ocean and their attempts to let the rest of the world know about it. They finally got some tape footage and it was played as the #1 story on Countdown with Keith Olbermann. I was just laughing my butt off.

I wish I had taped it now. Guess I'll have to watch for the rerun and tape it.

107. Where is this show on?
Please let us know when the rerun comes on!!

I'm surprised the usually good at self-promoting Keith didn't give us a "Be there, aloha" about this one. Is it because it competes in the time slot? Sheesh, Tweety gives himself a huge plug whenever he's on "The West Wing" or he even gets parodized on SNL!

109. It comes on Monday nights at 8:00pm
on NBC. I've been watching it since the beginning and I love the show. It's been on hiatus since around Thanksgiving I think and tonight was the first new show in weeks.

Keith's appearance in the last 15 minutes of the show was definitely a good thing. It was truly funny.
