10/25 Newsletter: "Cheney and the Leak" AL FRANKEN will be Keith's guest!
I've posted a headsup thread in General Discussion to alert people to what should be an especially memorable show:

thread title: Al Franken on as Olbermann's guest tonight-show will include Cheney & leak

Subject: Cheney and the Leak
Date: October 25, 2005 12:46:35 PM EDT

Tonight on Countdown
------------------------------------------------------

I. Lewis Libby Jr., Vice President Dick Cheney's chief of staff, first learned about the C.I.A. officer at the heart of the leak investigation in a conversation with Mr. Cheney weeks before her identity became public in 2003, lawyers involved in the case said Monday. Notes of the previously undisclosed conversation between Mr. Libby and Mr. Cheney on June 12, 2003, appear to differ from Mr. Libby's testimony to a federal grand jury that he initially learned about the C.I.A. officer, Valerie Wilson, from journalists, the lawyers said. It would not be illegal for either Mr. Cheney or Mr. Libby, both of whom are presumably cleared to know the government's deepest secrets, to discuss a C.I.A. officer or her link to a critic of the administration. But any effort by Mr. Libby to steer investigators away from his conversation with Mr. Cheney could be considered by Patrick J. Fitzgerald, the special counsel in the case, to be an illegal effort to impede the inquiry. http://www.nytimes.com/2005/10/25/politics/25leak.html?hp&ex=1130299200&en=56e9496be92c9d2a&ei=5094&partner=homepage

Beginning an agonizing, all-too-familiar process, Floridians on Tuesday lined up for generators, chain saws and other clean-up supplies after Hurricane Wilma cut a costly, deadly swath across the peninsula. The storm slammed across the state in about seven hours Monday, causing several billion dollars in insured damage and leaving six million people without electricity. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/9710472/

Rosa Parks, whose refusal to give up her bus seat to a white man sparked the modern civil rights movement, died Monday evening. She was 92. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/9809237/

L.A. police are cracking down after complaints that some costumed impersonators are shaking down visitors along the Walk of Fame. "Throw down your heads and get up against the wall!" police in Hollywood shouted at the movie cartoon character from "The Incredibles" and his sidekick, Elmo the Muppet. Authorities were cracking down on what some have complained is the shakedown of Hollywood Boulevard tourists when they arrested the two costumed impersonators along with a third, the dark-hooded character from the slasher movie "Scream." http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-characters25oct25,0,5904112.story?coll=la-home-headlines

That's some of what we're planning for tonight's show.

Finally,
An Arkansas attorney appealing his second drunken driving conviction was jailed Monday after he came to court intoxicated, officials said. A Saline County Circuit Court judge ordered 59-year-old Jerry Stewart jailed for contempt of court. He was ordered held without bail until Thursday, when he is scheduled in court for an unrelated case. Stewart faces a total of six years in prison and could be disbarred if convicted. http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/D/DRUNK_ATTORNEY?SITE=NWCN&TEMPLATE=STRANGEHEADS.html&SECTION=HOME

1. okay, I'll say this in the clubhouse...
although I thought it the first time I saw the thread up in GD. I rather wish the title had said "CIA leak" as "Al Franken on as Olbermann's guest tonight-show will include Cheney & leak" sounds like they're um, doing a urinal story perhaps? ;-) Yeah, we're all getting a little punchy on the wassail that is strong. It's almost Fitzmas and some of us got an early start on the holiday cheer...

2. ROTFLMAO!!! You're right, and now I'll see it that way too. I fiddled
with the wording to make it fit in the title space, and the result is clearly, well, open to interpretation!

4. I'm sure KO's going to have fun with this story tonight
I love that last night, when they were talking about "Mr. X" (gosh, no idea in the world who that could be), they were showing clips of Bush and Cheney walking together. He might as well have said, "you're going down, too, bastards!"
