"Hi, fans. It's Friday night on Countdown. Are you ready for a snarkin' good time, because I sure am! Tonight we'll--" "GO YANKEES!!! GO YANKEES!!! YEA YANKEES!!!" (looking around, disbelieving) "Berry, is that YOU??" "Why of course it is, Keith. Who did you think?" "But Berry, you're an Indians fan. You HATE the Yankees. In fact, all you do is complain about how if the Yankees make the playoffs, I won't do another Countdown until November. So--" "But Keith, you know as well as I do that if the Yankees kill off the Red Sox this weekend, the INDIANS get the wild card, free and clear. So, as much as it pains me to say it...GO YANKEES!!!!...This week, anyway. Then we get them and it's over, pal." "You're damn right it's over." "Shut up." (looking out at audience) "Sorry, folks. Next time we'll take our baseball arguments elsewhere. Enjoy the show."

| 9. I'm visualizing Botany on a leash. |
CRISPINI-style! How are ya, Gina?
until you mentioned Botany on a leash...
You should know better by now.
Bad enough I have already figured out I could never evacuate with my furbabies so would have to stay behind. But no way would I get even the dogs to wear a mack, no less the cats, ferrets and birds. Saw that and thought why isn't it in shreds yet.
| 14. It's a poodle - it's supposed to look stupid. |
I wondered the same thing. At first, it was "what's the dog carrying in its mouth?" Then I heard the name, and lost it. Hey, CC - maybe you and Terry should build a moat around your house.
| 62. So far we figure we are ok |

since we are on the highest spot in the county. So ok from flood hopefully. Now fire woods are far from us and guess would just have to close all windows and run the furnace/ac since it does have a great filter system on it....grrrrrrrrrrrrr phone

| 6. He's all shimmery tonight. |

So expected him to call in sick and go to the game. I think I have to leave and go to dinner soon, so maybe I'll catch you all on the repeat.
If I don't see you, L'shana Tova. Have a very happy and healthy. As usual, the holidays always fall during my busy time at work and I doubt I'll be able to take next Tuesday and Wednesday off. Maybe I'll be able to take Yom Kippur, but we'll see.
| 77. Doesn't he shimmer though? |
| 94. yes, it's the grey suit tonight |
ah. what a way to end the week. dg
Have you feet and legs recovered completely? Sometimes I am convinced DC puts something in its cement to make legs hurt after walking around there. I have walked other cities as much and never seem as sore.
| 13. if they do, it must be in the museums as well |
those stone floors were deadly. Haven't forgotten that about DC.
| 16. I guess they just want to |
make sure you know you were there and seeing lots.
Though noticed they have stopped keeping the reflecting pool clean. sigh
I still have some pain, but I don't think it's from the trip, necessarily.

Though it could of aggravated anything you might of had already. That is why my mom decided she wasn't going to try to march.

hope your week isn't too crazy & you can enjoy your holidays. l'chaim (did i get that right? ) dg
| 106. My week will be crazy, but |
thanks! And you did get it right. The big question is, can you pronounce the "ch" correctly? That's always the hard part.
although i think i sound like i'm coughing up a lung when i do it. dg
| 116. I don't sound like I'm coughing up a lung when I do it |
more like a cat with a 'tude.
| 118. Sounds about right to me! |
| 10. Dayam, that firefighter was fine, fine, fine. |
Be still my heart. Don't tell Mr. Bunny. Stephanie Miller must have needed resuscitation if she was watching. She has a thing for firemen. Me, I just have a thing for GORGEOUS.
I missed him -- I'm in the other room. This little girl is so cute. Why would someone just leave her?
Her mother looks like a princess. She talks so beautifully and she's so adorable.
| 24. I fear something awful happened to her mother. |
Poor kid. Her mommy's name is Monica. Maybe Ms. Gidget can adopt her?
| 27. My hubby remarked that she looks like she could be hers |
I, too, have a very bad feeling about her mother.
i hope they find valerie's mom safe & sound. where is the rest of her family? grandma, grandpa, other dad, aunts, uncles, etc??? hasn't anyone noticed the kid (or the mom) missing? dg
right before she said her mother looked like a princess, I KNEW that was exactly what she was going to say.
I don't know how. I just did.
That story about the little girl is very sad. I'm sure worried about what's happened to her mother. It seems as if there should be a relative they can find. When she said her mommy looked like a princess I teared up. I really have trouble watching any of the stories where bad things happen to little kids. I hope this one turns out OK.
| 29. I hope so, too, but I doubt it. |
When they run things like this on the late news, I usually make my husband go check on the munchkin, even though I know she's fast asleep.

She just the most adorable little girl. I doubt her mother would have left her there like that -- I'm sure something bad happened to her. I hope it turns out okay, too.
| 80. Yeah, this doesn't look good. |
This sounds like a classic boyfriend-kills-mom-dumps-kid story.
| 121. yeah right he took them to the airport |
the kid was found with no shoes on, probably in her pj's. this sounds sooo like the stories i hear in my line of work. dg
| 25. Who ever decided you put "that" on hold after marriage? |
Lust away, dear Thumper, as long as it's in your heart.
| 30. I sure never said that. |
I'm a dirty old lady. but the brother had it going on.
| 40. Cheese? Is that you? Or is it your evil twin tonight? |
| 48. I am me - both pure good and pure evil. |
God would not permit there be two of me. The world could not take it.
| 59. Yeah...you'd be like those two opposite guys on the old Star Trek, |
fighting in some foggy void for all eternity. (Hurray for google images!)
Is it me, or does Lokai bear a strong resemblance to John Roberts?
| 76. Holy Shiite! He DOES look like Roberts. Makes me wish |
that Frank Gorshin were the new chief justice.
| 79. Riddle me this, Scalia.... |
Sure would liven things up, wouldn't it?
How about Julie Newmar for the next nomination?
| 91. "how can anyone describe her without using the word statuesque?" |

To Wong Foo, Thanks for everything, Love, Julie Newmar.

You noticed that, did ya?

Now that is my cup of tea .....
S. California is designed to burn on 10 / 15 year cycles ... Especially the chaparral (native) but the PhD is right we need native plants and controlled burns too.
I love to fire up some of the prairies I have planted in late winter early spring ..... neat stuff.
The hillsides that got burned out need seeded w/ native grasses ASAP ..... or mudslides in the winter/spring.
BTW I had a good talk with Cliff Arnebeck last night ... he was answer to one of Perky's new quiz questions last winter ...... A lawyer for Cobb looking into the stolen election in Ohio ..... he told me that their is tons of proof but the media is deliberately staying away ... too hot. He & his wife are so damn normal and middle of the road that it is not funny.
| 35. Botany, do you even read the thread before you post? |
| 56. LOL- I saw that thread earlier! |
botany 4 Forgive those who speak in wicked tongues from the land of beer & brats. For they long for the healing hand of Saint Brett; a mortal man. Drink a beer as an act of atonement.

because Brett .... might only be able to play against kids. P.S. Announcement @ last Green Bay Home game "Would the parents of cub scout troop 241 please pick up your kids ... they beat the Pack 21 to 3"
| 66. Arnebeck! Put a cape on the guy, he's a hero. |
If I'd known you were going to meet him, I'd have asked you to kiss him for me.
| 103. No thanks to the kiss but he is a stand up guy. |
I sent him an e mail this morning to thank him for his work and he sent me one back thanking me for my work ...... class Besides he asked me about Stephanie Miller The man & his wife are so freaking normal and not left wing looney it is not funny .... he did say that something big might break soon.
| 109. Really? That's almost too much to hope for! |
Actually, I've been waiting for something big to break for the last 10 months. Wow - you're becoming famous, Cuddles.
| 112. Very cool. And he does look like the kind of guy who still uses |
Brylcreem. Here's to something big breaking.
The suspense has been killing me for almost a year now.
when you think about it, though, blivet** and his crew thought they were on top of the world less than a year ago and think about where they are now. I wonder if they wish they hadn't bothered.
| 32. I missed that Oddball music! |
| 162. I meant to answer earlier, but yes, "Sabre Dance" it is. |
by Khatchaturian.
I used to think of the guy who spun plates on the Ed Sullivan Show every time I heard it, but now thanks to Oddball it's inextricably linked in my brain with Keith.
He has warped us for life.
| 33. I think this must be the place. |
Always thinking "bigger is better." Ahoy there, Bleev!
| 49. LOL. But around here it's safe to say that when it comes to snark, |
| 53. I guess around here, we could say that about the ASTB, too. |
At least, in my mind, you're at least 6'2".
| 37. Ha, Ha, Mantaquilla Elvis. |
Lots of snarky butter jokes. Dairy Elvis made with as much butter as real Elvis had for breakfast every morning. Snorf!!!
OK, now I want to adopt the lost little girl, and the 'free' Jack Russell. Great 'Born Free' bumper music.
| 41. You'll have to fight me for her |
| 86. Loved Keith's Elvis voice, and also |
how he reached back and found a SECOND pile of script pages to throw tonight!
| 101. I didn't notice that, too funny. |
Snark at 11 again tonight. I think KO must've missed Oddball, he certainly seems to be enjoying it now that it's back.
| 108. he can do the news straighter than straight but I think he relishes |
a chance to kick up his heels and be goofy, too -- and he does it so well.
| 163. Yes--this past week he's looked like a colt just let out of the barn. |
Finally he gets to run free again!
| 42. "A fruit plate and a martini." |
Breakfast of Champions, right?
| 44. Keith talks to Craig Crawford.... |
| 45. Craig got Keith to blush!!! |
"Lots of Countdown fans - most of them would rather meet you than me." Aw, Craig - I lurve ya!
| 52. yeah, and since it wasn't a Musto night |
Edited on Fri Sep-30-05 07:38 PM by gkhouston
he wasn't wearing the heavier makeup, LOL!
Okay, so which one of you made Craig feel underappreciated, 'cause he's really a sweetie, too...
I'd snark him in a nano-second.
| 93. I swear. I have not seen Craig. |
But I do have his book.
A lot of DU'ers would not like it. I will warn you that much if you haven't read it yet. He has no compunctions about taking Clinton down along with Bush.
The writing is so-so...in my opinion. But he does plug Keith quite a bit...and not just on page 5.
| 133. is that what they call it in wisconsin? |
| 135. I use snark in multiple ways. |
It's a vixen thing, dear.
| 160. these things are good to know |
always looking to add to my bag o' tricks. dg
| 89. Rather meet Keith than Craig? |
Gee, none of us here resembles THAT remark.
| 90. I don't know; they'd both be pretty interesting |
to hang out with. I think I'd be pretty happy to meet either one.
| 120. You're a better woman than I. |
I freely admit...if I had my choice of meeting one or the other, it would not be a contest. You may kill me now for my interests being so lustful and base.
| 122. ah... has it not occurred to you that my interests |
might be lustful, base, and less discriminate?
let's kill her, just to slim down the competition.
| 132. wanna snark her to death? |
(It's not like Sparks is around to enforce the law...)
| 136. When Sparky's away - the vixen will snark? |
Aw, hell, sure - go ahead. Just let me get a tissue.
| 138. nah, when Sparky's away, the vixens will be |
extra bad 'cause security is so lax.
| 139. I forget: why did we want to off Berry? I usually like her. n/t |
| 141. to cut down on Keith's "waiting list." |
| 143. how about a draught of forgetfulness? |
or a magic potion that will make her find Tucker Carlson irresistible? (I said it was magic.)
| 144. Hey, Tucker's kinda cute. |
I'd snark him to the left.
Glad to know the diluted test dose of the potion works. When and how should we deliver the full-strength dose to Berry?
Beggars can't be choosers, you know.
I think I'm gonna turn in early. Have a great weekend, Gina!
| 152. You, too. 'Nite. n/t |
what is it about btb that you find "cute"? dg
| 146. wait a minute -- why am I reducing this list? |
I'm married. Is this my good deed for the day or am I securing a shadow slot in case I survive the avian flu and my husband doesn't? (Morbid thought.)
Maybe I should see what Berry has to offer...
| 149. Nah, Sparky would never forgive me if I did you dark |
and he might turn up again someday; you never know. Not that he'll be too pleased with us for disposing of Berry, but I'm sure you can distract him, can't you? And the comical thing is, we have no way of knowing who/what KO does prefer, except we can guess: no actresses!
| 166. Sparky will NOT be distracted if you should dispose of me. My ghost |
won't let him rest. Trust me on that one. I will haunt him until he avenges my death. As for me, I can proudly say that I am not now, nor have I ever been, an actress. Except for school plays. And those don't count. (In my first role, in third grade, I played Rip Van Winkle's wife, which was actually a lot of fun because it was a pure bitch part. Unfortunately I was already dead by the part where he woke up.) Keith may rest assured that if I ever have occasion to say to him "Keith, Keith, ohhhhhh Keith..."...well, it won't be acting. Uh, oh, now they'll REALLY kill me.
| 175. let him avenge you. You'll still be dead. |
| 165. Yeah! Why do you wanna off me? I'm still single and free! |
And so is the Rev. By all rights WE should be sharing the bounties of Keith and/or Craig...not you! Shame shame!!!!
If there is to be an orgy, single people only, please! We have our standards!!
And all those who attempt to snark me to death will be severely disciplined!
Except for Keith, of course.
In his case, the use of unnecessary snark in the apprehension of Berry has been approved.
| 176. Ruth is my sister in snark? |
Whither she snarketh I will snark, even if I'm smoochy in love with my husband and don't expect to derive personal benefit from this action.
| 177. And where I lodgeth, you will lodge... |
That would be Gull Bay, no doubt. (points for the reference, G. )
| 180. and you thought I only knew passages from the Song of Solomon... |
| 185. My word! Quoting Bible passages, are we, to justify our wickedness? |
Why, if I didn't know better, I'd swear you guys were freepers!
quoting Bible passages because we're wicked Vixens With A Plan... 'cause there's nothing that'll turn a guy on faster than a bad girl quoting the Good Book.
| 188. But see, what you ladies forget is that |
I am perfectly capable of self-defense in a Battle of the Snark. And don't even TRY to beat me at quoting the Bible. "Jesus wept." So there.
Did I just hear the sound of a gauntlet being thrown down? This could get very interesting, indeed.
it's polite to allow folks a few comfortable self-delusions...
| 191. Time to break out The Song of Solomon. |
When my King-Lover lay down beside me, my fragrance filled the room. His head resting between my breasts - the head of my lover was a sachet of sweet myrrh. My beloved is a bouquet of wild flowers picked just for me from the fields of Engedi.
Damn. I think I hot and bothered myself.
| 192. well, I expect you know |
| 140. Have you noticed how the men have fled? |
Hey Lurkers! Time to "show yourselves."
| 142. hmm, they have gone away. Maybe they were afraid we |
were going to get out the curlers and talk about girl stuff?
| 167. Hey, if you will style my hair, I'll get a needle, matches and an ice cube |
and pierce your ears.
Then we can call Botany, Bleever and Sparky and tease them over the phone, hoping they will try to sneak in the window and stage a panty raid.
It shouldn't be hard. By the time they get a load of us all sitting around in our babydoll pajamas singing "Born Too Late" while we brush our long silky hair, it'll be all they can do NOT to invade.
| 181. for answering the door when the pizza man... |
| 183. OK - you take the pizza |
and I'll take the delivery dude.
| 164. Uh-oh. I'm gettin' naughty mental pictures here. |
You, Keith, Craig, and a tent full of harem cushions.
Someone better keep Botany from reading this. It might turn him on.
| 128. What's up with the deer in the headlights look KO? |
Edited on Fri Sep-30-05 08:31 PM by Gogi
We're just fans not Martians, have we spooked you?
| 129. I think he got a flash image of Crispini and the Cuffs. |
You know he's been reading Gull Bay, don't ya?
Guess that ends any chance of getting an autograph.
| 168. Maybe he got a glimpse of our all-girl pajama party |
and he and Craig are going to be the ones staging the panty raid.
If they can get their courage up, that is.
I hope you brought some panties to the PJ party or the raiders might be disappointed... or perhaps not.
When we tell them we didn't pack any extra panties - well, let your imagination run wild.
| 182. Rev... when are you ever packing *any* panties? n/t |
| 184. That's for me to know |
and "you know who" to find out.
| 186. I always pack panties. |
In Ohio, we're allowed to pack, you know.
| 47. Judy, Judy, Judy. Is she going to get her own reality TV show now? |
| 50. What would you call it? |
I'm drawing a blank here.
No, that's been used... and "The Prisoner" is definitely out, far too classy for her...
Mythical Martyrdom? Jailhouse Journalism?
"Jailhouse Judy" or "Jailhouse Diaries"?
| 82. Maybe "Judging Judy?" |
| 75. How about, "What Do *I* Know?" |
Where people compete to convince a panel that they matter, they really matter, they really do know important stuff, instead of being irrelevant hacks with their credibility in shreds.
| 87. This sounds promising. |
Who would be the panelists? Who would host?
| 97. irrelevant hacks with credibility in shreds |
sounds like a job for Bob Novak to me...
Kitty Carlisle, Bennet Cerf, Soupy Sales. Dream host: Groucho. Second choice: Alan Alda, channeling Groucho. Maybe a super-groovy set, like this one:
| 111. what about KO channeling Groucho? n/t |
| 117. Ya know, that might actually be better. |
| 123. Well, his eyebrows are already on permanent channel |
| 126. The Wooly Caterpillars! |
Well, it is fall. If Keith's eyebrows get extra-bushy, does that mean we'll have a long, cold winter?
put aside those thoughts of how you're going to keep him warm through the long, cold winter. We've got a crime to plan.
| 169. I check the proportion of black vs. gray stripes in them. |
That's how I know to bring extra blankets for us.
| 51. Expect a book deal at a minimum. |
And maybe a guest appearance on Extreme Makeover.
For sure a book deal. She probably has a contract already with a publisher.
"extreme makeover." Olney, you are fitting right in here!
| 60. IMHO, the investigation of Frist seems like payback from the Bush |
Edited on Fri Sep-30-05 07:54 PM by bunny planet
crime family for Fristula having broken ranks and come out for stem cell research. We all know how petulant Jr. can be when people cross him and the fundaholic base didn't like the Cat Killer's scientific comments. Frist's family has had nefarious business dealings for years, they even had to pay a huge sum of money in a fraud case to make it go away a few years back. Why all of a sudden is his activity being scrutinized, or as the Newsweek guy said 'undergoing the Wall Street version of a proctologist's exam.' BTW, yeeeech to that imagery.
KO was funny as usual, maybe it wasn't a blind trust but more like a near-sighted one.
| 63. I loved that comment. |
| 98. Then again, maybe it wasn't a blind trust |
but just one with really, really bad depth perception over 15 miles per hour.
| 64. I love this dolphin story. |
| 104. Nice to see a happy ending for dolphins again, isn't it? |
Go dolphins! Perhaps you CAN run FEMA someday! Can't do any worse...
| 67. Jeez, Jessie Ventura is scary.... |
| 71. hee; I'm trying to imagine KO with the "Ming" look... |
| 70. Nice Ming/Flash Gordon reference from Keef. |
| 74. get the feeling our boy has read a lot of comic books or |
watched a lot of bad science fiction or both?
| 81. Man, that one took me way, way back. |
I liked the way that sparks came out the back of the spaceships in Flash Gordon. And man, Ming really WAS Merciless.
| 95. We used to have to watch old films of Flash Gordon when we had rainy |
days in elementary school and couldn't go outside for recess. We would crack up over the space ship that clearly was held up with a string as it supposedly flew through space, of course, we had our state of the art Star Trek special effects to compare them to.
| 170. This takes me back to a time in college when one of the dorm lounge TVs |
Edited on Sat Oct-01-05 09:48 AM by BerryBush
was mysteriously getting HBO and no one knew why.
At the time they were running that early-'80s version of Flash over and over again (the one with the theme song by Queen) and so we watched it over and over and made fun of its badness.
| 73. Can you FEEEEL the SNAARK tonight... |
Berry, that was a masterpiece.
| 105. Hmm. You're quoting Elton, Muff. |
Does that mean I get to ask you for RUDE VILE PIG! RUDE VILE PIG! thanks.
| 130. And now, taking requests after the Week From Hades... |
Muffster and her talented cat, Muffin, will now sing the Elton John songbook.
| 124. what did you think of Larry and his "advice"? |
I can't imagine why he got a divorce....
| 171. Yeah, I mean, who WOULDN'T be thrilled to be married to |
a beefy guy covered with tattoos who smoked a cigar and derived way too much enjoyment from wearing your wedding dress?
| 127. Well I ended up missing the |
show and will have to catch the late night rerun. Cussing here specially after I said something to the effect that I missed my show and the person on the phone laughed and said, What show? Keith Olbermann." then laughed. . So beginning to think they did it on purpose. Yes he is that type of person and Terry refused to argue politics with him leaving me on the phone to talk and he won't with me cause I know more and make him think. His words there.
| 137. There's something to be said for not answering the telephone |
at inconvenient moments...
| 145. I think the ringer will be |
turned off from 8-9 from now on. At least upstairs where I am.
| 151. and the door will be locked. :-) n/t |
| 153. Unfortunately on Fridays |
Ter is home so interruptions still happen though he has gotten better. Had I recognized the number right away on caller id I wouldn't have answered it tonight. Or had Ter actually answered it faster. lol He can't let a phone ring like I can.
| 154. good thing you can turn the ringer off |
and the rest of the week you have KO all to yourself.
| 155. I wish. I have to tape |
Monday thru Wednesday now since I am at work. Watch them all back to back Thursday the The Thursday night show. Miss being here for the live KOEB most on those nights. There is something to be said about 4 hours of back to back Keith though. But does interfere with catching up on the home chores. Check out Raging in Miami's slide show of the march with great pics and commentary. http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.ph...
| 156. Will do. Thanks for the link. |
I know what you mean about missing the evening meet-up, as I'm almost never here.
| 157. I take comfort in reading the threads |
when I get home. Get an idea of what was covered as I unwind. sigh But I also am the one that got myself on the schedule I have at work. Longer hours per day for less days and gas usage. Must be careful when working for liberal, environmentally friendly bosses because they actually get it and try to accommodate.
| 158. next time, try working for a jerk? |
I don't think that's such a good idea, LOL!
jerks, part of why I stay where I am. The money isn't great, there are no windows and its only part time but the people are great. At least those of us kept in the caves/dungeons. Off to spend some time with Ter so he shushes during the rerun.
| 173. I get along fine with one of my bosses, but I know she's conservative |
so I never get into political discussions with her.
Actually it's better that way. I made the grave mistake once of becoming friends with a female boss, and I will NEVER do THAT again. From now on, my boss is my boss and my friends are my friends, and never the twain shall meet. All I ask of my boss is that she appreciate my work and reward me accordingly. That's where it ends.
The good thing is most of my coworkers are much more liberal than she is. Or at least they don't like *. So I can chat politics with them from my desk (she's farther away in the office) without a problem.

Yesterday at work during the hour Keith was on Dan Patrick's show and I was listening to it on my XM Radio, I got TWO phone calls. More frustratingly, either of them was even related to WORK! If they had been WORK related, it would have made sense...but NOOOOOO!
