- A little pricey imo, but the car is equiped with a good number of features for the money.

1. It looks like a Toyota
Why buy a Jetta made in Mexico when you can get a better-built Camry that looks the same?

VW normally has nice-looking designs. This new Jetta isn't one of them.

2. It kinda looks like a Corolla imho.
and well equiped it's not cheap. You can buy an upper level Camry or Accord for the same amount of money.

3. Does it come with a diesel engine in the U.S.?
You occasionally run across a Jetta diesel on e-bay but they're hard to find. I don't know why small diesel engine cars have never found popularity in the U.S., the way they have in the rest of the world. The gas mileage supposedly approaches 45 mpg on the highway and some of those old Volkswagen diesels accumulate more than 300,000 miles on them without a major engine overhaul. I absolutely and unequivocally detest the way all new cars have looked for the last 25 years and cannot stomach the look of plastic cars. Therefore, I won't comment on whether I like the looks of the new Jetta compared to other new cars because I hate them all. If I were to buy a new car, I wouldn't buy it for the looks but I would try to get a small 4 cylinder diesel that would last me about 10 years without major problems. You'd save a lot of money on further new car purchases, on mechanics' fees, and fuel. You might even consider converting it to run on cooking oil. You never know how the international oil market will end up 10 years from now.

6. My Fiance's '03 Jetta was absolute junk - LOTS of problems
With VW's, you seem to get either a perfect car or a lemon. Her car was always in the shop and she got so pissed as the warranty was ending that she traded it in on an Acura TSX - a MUCH better car with zero problems after almost 30K miles for a few thousand more - my guess is that the prices are almost the same with the new Jetta.
