Democratic insiders are "taking the temperature of some top party donors" about the possibility of naming White House press secretary Robert Gibbs as chairman of the DNC heading into President Obama's reelection campaign in 2012, Politico reports.

"Under the scenario being tested, Tim Kaine, the current DNC chairman and former governor of Virginia, would be named to a top administration post, perhaps in the Cabinet."

Let me get this straight...we're in the fight of our lives here, and the "pros" want to put the guy who just hippie-punched half the party running the DNC(thus guaranteeing that no one could EVER feel any enthusiasm about voting Democratic again), AND they want the guy who blew almost all the special elections in the last two years to be rewarded for his good works with a CABINET post?

Whose side are these "insiders" on? And why the hell should we let them go on BEING insiders?

1. I've never understood the "high regard" in which Gibbs is held. We could do so
much better. Ditto with Kaine.

2. It's one big club...
..and we're all on the outside looking in while they all just shuffle chairs.

I really thought that was more the GOP's wheelhouse, but it's becoming more and more clear with each day that the Democratic Party has been plagued by the same mentality.

3. Conservative.Democrat. originally from South????
May I respectfully suggest the party needs a stronger face.

Gibbs is probably a nice decent person. The Party simply needs
a different face.

4. And we need to make sure that the DNC chair is NEVER given
to anybody who insults most of the people who actually work in Democratic campaigns.

It isn't centrist insiders doing the canvassing and envelope-stuffing, or writing the small checks that are the actual source of most party funds.

Gibbs as DNC chair would be a return to the, er, heyday of Terry McAuliffe. It would certainly guarantee no victories during his tenure, except for grassroots victories for progressive candidates that happened AGAINST Gibbs' will.

5. I guess they think Kaine didn't sink the group down far enough
so they want Gibbs to finish the job. Or do they just want to get him out of the Press secretary position and this is the only way.

8. Gibbs would be the right choice if you want to eliminate everyone...
...to the left of Jimmy Carter.

Hard Facts:

(1) The country is not polarized; there is one coherent power source: various leanings of the Far Right;
(2) There is no opposition to the Far Right;
(3) NO ONE, not the president, not the Democratic Party, wants ANYTHING to do with the Left; and
(4) The Left is currently anyone to the left of Jimmy Carter; The GOP will inform us of the next standard.

Alternatives:

(1) Formation of a "new" political party; and
(2) Take over the Democratic Party (attempted in 1971-72, but quashed by DLC.)

Prediction:

(1) One of the two "Alternatives" WILL be taken in the near future; or
(2) Permanent authoritarian corporate state WILL ensue, headed by either GOP, or occasionally the Democratic Party.
