Thursday, 1/5: I worked out today--did you?
:hi: Good Morning gang!

I'm working on speed these days, so I'm running every day, but keeping it to one mile only. I give that mile everything I've got. Mind you, I've always been a very slow runner, so when I say to you that I almost broke a 13 minute mile today, you may not be very impressed, but I'm very proud.

After my one mile run, I tried the indoor rowing machine. Wow, is that a workout! Especially in the back and in the legs. I stayed on the machine and in motion for 15 minutes, but I certainly wasn't working at a break-neck pace.

I went into the weight room to do leg work, but got side-tracked by a good conversation with the trainers. My bad.

Yesterday I did VERY well w/ my diet. My one downfall was a handful of Doritos at around 7:30 last night, but beyond that I stuck to the rules.

1. Nope....I've got a nasty cold and sore throat
Result of coughing from my cold.

I hate blowing it off...particularly since I'm getting into a nice routine already.

3. my new jogging journal says to do a "neck check"
If symptoms are above the neck, go. If you've got chest congestion, achy muscles, or other problems south of your throat, skip your workout.

I had this cold last week, It went into a chest cough quickly and the sore throat was MISERABLE. I hope you feel better soon!

Yes, I've got the chest congestion as well. I don't want to be in the gym and spend my time there hacking and coughing...that's counterproductive, to put it mildly. :-(

I'm just going to take good care of myself when I get home (I went into work and probably shouldn't have)

11. 6 miles, core training
The usual. Hit the diet pretty well - my normal pre-workout breakfast burrito and vegetable juice, then made a potato au gratin casserole for supper that we had with broccoli and salad. Had a yogurt cup and fruit in mid afternoon when I got hungry and a banana-blueberry-oatmeal bar (homemade, very low sugar, very high fiber) an hour ago with my meds. Hit the goals, anyway.

12. i did my home workout
using 8 lb dumbbells & an exercise routine that was published in the paper. :) today, i'm trying out a new yoga dvd. :)
