RIP Denis "Piggy" D'Amour -groundbreaking Voivod Guitarist
Heard the news on Saturday. Piggy died from advanced cancer.

Voivod is one of my favorite bands. They really pushed the envelope of what heavy music could be about. Piggy was one of the most imaginitive and unique guitarists out there. To this day, the Voivod albums from the 80s are far ahead of anything else being done in metal. It's a great loss to the metal community.

On a bittersweet note, apparently Piggy knew he was on his way out friday night and insisted to Away (Voivod's drummer) that he go to Piggy's laptop and download all the final guitar tracks for the new album and put it out. So there will be a final album from these metal legends.

RIP Piggy, you will be sorely missed.

1. That's too bad.
Many musicians in the genre look at Voivod as a very influential band. How old was Piggy and from what kind of cancer did he die?

2. he was 45, i think
The cancer was advanced stage, either stomach or liver.

I'm trying to replace my tapes of Dimension Hatross and Killing Techology with CDs, and Amazon keeps bumping back my ship date!

3. Back in the day,
they were some serious old school metal. Too bad.
