Help for Christian parents of Gay/Lesbian/Bi/Transgendered children. Call 888-Gay-4-God
Just posting this great recovery story (recovery of the mom thatis!) in case anyone hears a family member, or co-worker or friend say they have a gay child and don't know what to think because they thought it was a sin. I cringe when I see a teen killed themselves because they were Gay and they say they were told they were bad ---

From the Gay Christian Network website -

Like many Christian mothers, Sandy was completely unprepared to learn that her son, Stephen, was gay.

How could he be? Everything she had been taught in church had led her to one conclusion, that gay people were sinful, that they had turned from God, and that they were ultimately condemned to hell. Yet none of that fit the profile of her beloved son. He was a good son, and he loved God. How could he be gay?

For five months after learning of her son's sexuality, Sandy was a wreck. She was sure that homosexuality was not of God. Yet she loved her son. She needed answers, but she didn't know where to turn.

Then she found GCN.

Through GCN's online community, Sandy met both gay Christians and other parents like herself. They answered her questions, prayed with her, and offered their support. With their help, Sandy learned to understand and accept her son. Today, she serves on GCN's Board of Directors to help make a difference for other parents like her!

Sandy's not alone. Since 2001, thousands of people have found the support they needed at GCN, all because of supporters like you.

Because of you, a GCN staff member was waiting to answer a mom's call to our toll-free hotline. She broke down in tears as she shared her fear that her son might go to hell for being gay.

Because of you, conservative Christian moms and dads attended our 2009 conference at a discount with their kids. One mom wrote of the experience, "Here I found the shackle of my self righteousness released!"

Because of you, GCN's new youth documentary, Through My Eyes, is now available for kids all over the world to share with their parents. Among the two dozen featured young people is Sandy's own son, the one who started her journey to understanding.

There are millions of dads and moms like Sandy who need help accepting their LGBT children. You can ensure that GCN is there for them, too. Your support keeps our website running, our phone lines staffed, and our resources in production. And with your support, we can advertise our presence to let more parents know we're here for them.

Are you a parent or child in need of someone to talk to? Call our toll-free hotline, Monday through Friday, at 1-888-GAY-4-GOD or call us direct at (919) 786-0000.

1. It would help considerably if so-called "liberal" churches, like the UMC and the UPCUSA would
move into the 21st Century on this issue.

Glad to know this support is available. Thanks!

2. Don't hold your breath, Critters.
The UMC is firmly rooted in 1950's America... ironically, it was formed in 1968. :eyes:
Don't expect any movement until the elder generation is gone. By that time, I think the UMC will be gone, too.

3. The UMC amazes me. It's becoming more and more entrenched
on this issue. In the last 4 months, we've actually received 2 retired UMC pastors and their spouses as Associate Members, because they're so disgusted with the UMC on this and other issues. There's a crisis going on, when a denomination's own clergy are joining other denominations as soon as they retire. Not that we're complaining.

4. And some of us may be joining BEFORE we retire.
:hi:
