Girardians, do you find yourself more aware of violence in the world
since reading Girard. Not only am I finding Jesus talking about violence all the time, but I'm more aware of it in the media, and even in my neighborhood (a guy in a truck honked at a couple crossing against the light in front of the church. The man walking goes up to the driver and starts screaming and pounding on the truck, until the truck drove off...stuff like that).

I find it overwhelming at times. I'm amazed at how clear these themes are in scripture, but sometimes I want to scream "Alright! I get it! What do you want me to do about it?!!". And my parishioners don't see how any of this is relevant to them, which is probably a commentary on my preaching skills.

Whatever. I'm exhausted.

1. Aww, I don't think its a comment
on your preaching... I think it's just that so many people sleepwalk through life. They really don't see the suffering and violence around them. It's so common, it only seems natural.

I've never studied Girard, but I do know that the drive to conquer and dominate controls a lot of people. Some days it seems like most people. *sigh*

2. I've never read Girard, but a friend once pointed out how much violent
language we use in supposedly non-violent activities: target audiences, blow the competition out of the water, etc.
