Shows featuring diversity...
I have to take a moment to say how much I LOVE seeing diversity on television. I love it when a show features interracial couples, but doesn't draw attention to it, it's just matter of fact. Which when you think of it is the way it is for us. Issues of race are what others place on our relationships, rather than something we ourselves feel defined by.

Perhaps Shonda Rimes, the writer, creator and executive producer of Grey's Anatomy said it best in the April issue of Marie Claire.
When asked if it is a conscious decision that race is never discussed on the show, (considering that there are a few interracial relationships featured on the show). She responded:

I think that issues of race are a larger conversation that people project on a relationship, but for the two people in it, that's not the primary thing on their minds.

Thank you, Shonda...Exactly!

Shows that feature the diversity I love to see:

My Name is Earl
This season featured Marlee Matlin, as Joy's "deaf lawyer", as she called her. The show also shows english as a second language speakers as occasional castmembers, the disabled, a middle aged-bilingual prostitute and others. It also prominently features an interracial relationship and a set of young boys that are brothers--one caucasian, the other african american.

One thing I find very interesting (and funny) about the show is how it turns some "stereotypes" on their head. Darnell, Joy's husband is black, and works as a server at the Crab Shack. It's been shown on several episodes that Darnell is incredibly intelligent, far more so than his peers. It's been alluded to that he was a part of a witness protection program and you get the sense that he left behind a life, very different from his trailer park existence with Joy on Earl. ;)

Grey's Anatomy
I don't watch it regularly. But one of the things that drew me into the show the few times I watched was the very matter of fact aspect of relationships on the show (in regard to race), and the diverse casting.

Anyone know of any others?
:hi:

1. Just saw a very cool commercial
featuring a black young man, signing (ASL) with his grandfather. I LOVE this, because I recall the time when anyone signing was thought of as different or foreign. I'm giving some coolness points to Disney parks for this ad.

Oh, I LOVE seeing inter-racial couples anywhere, TV, news, out in public, etc. I love it. The only time I don't like it is when race is the motivating factor for the relationship.

5. Thanks for updating this.
Wikipedia is apparently prone to a lot of changes, since anyone can amend articles.
