Habitat for Humanity RE-Store
This came up in another group. If you're looking for a place to buy used, discontinued, or slightly damaged building materials, paint, windows, appliances, blinds, etc., see if there is a RE-Store near you. They also accept donations of these items and can always use money and volunteers. The money raised goes to Habitat for Humanity.

Here's more about it: http://www.habitat.org/env/restores.html

There's a link on that page to find the store nearest you.

My husband makes a trip to the RE-Store after every job to donate materials. It's a great place to find stuff, too, especially if you're flexible. For example, if you're adding a room, get the windows there first instead of framing the room and then trying to find windows to fit.

1. i am waiting for my local store to open to find a 5 panel door to use
as a headboard for my platform bed as seen on HGTV Designer Finals. I will use different colors for my Southwest style, but the door idea rocks!

2. Ooooh... I like that idea
We apparently have a Re-store here in Pdx, but there are other places as well. We have a Rebuilding center and a store called Rejuvenation. Rejuvenation sells those 5 panel doors pretty cheap.

thanks for the idea!

3. I love this place.
There's one in Garland @ I-30 and Beltline/Broadway.

When we re-did our guest bath in 2003, we found a beautiful old antique dresser for our counter, and got a $5 sink from the Hab store to put in it! With the fancy fu-fu Victorian plumbing hardware we got online, you'd never know!

And with the help of our next-door neighbor the plumber, it looks fantastic! (My faux-finish paint job doesn't hurt either!) It is now the "Shakespeare bath."

I bought some cool Shakespeare theater posters online, got them matted and really nicely framed, found an amazing ornate gold framed mirror at Tuesday morning, and did the walls in periwinkle with royal blue sponged on. And a clear pocket shower curtain with laminated scenes from the "Complete Shakespeare" in the pockets.

Can you tell I've been watching too much HGTV?

I'll try to dig them up. Might take awhile!

I promise.
