Introducing the GERMS floor lamp, V1.0...
Edited on Sat Apr-30-11 09:38 PM by GReedDiamond
...the prototype yet to be perfected, but which is about 95% there:

Based on characters created in an ongoing series of paintings (see below for examples) by Jaime GERMS Zacarias, a Los Angeles based pop-surrealist -- www.Germs4U.com.

Designed and built by me (with a little help from a coupla friends), shade/head fabricated and hand painted by GERMS.

Edited for typo.

3. It would be in the neighborhood of...

...at least $3000.00 for this version.

Being totally hand built from almost nothing. Which took two months.

However, it would be somewhat problematic to exactly reproduce it using all of the same materials where it would actually look like the example, (likely things would be different, such as the "pleather" tentacles), so, effectively, it would be a variation on the original, in itself, a "one-of-a-kind." Chances are it would be somewhat better than the original. Hopefully.

But I was not really planning on reproducing this version, I am looking into the cost of fabricating the "tentacle base" out of hand carved, gilded teak, in Thailand, by my friend who does Mark Ryden's frames.

This version would be issued in an edition size of 10-20.

On Edit: Here is a link to a YouTube video of Tiki Thai Arts, Chiang Mai, Thailand, creators of Mark Ryden's hand carved frames.

4. Yup, out of my range lol.
Really neat though, and worth the money for the effort that clearly went into it, and for the plain old coolness factor. :)
