Olympus SP-310.
I might go back to get the extended warranty... though if I had the dough ($50 more) and if it was available, I'd consider the SP-350. (it has a hotshoe and 8MP sensor, that gives an extra 200 pixels H and 150 pixels V resolution (3500x2450 vs 3200x2300)
But, damn.
I think the auto white balance mode is slightly imperfect as my skin tone was a bit yellow - of course, I was sweating when I took the pic and not feeling well in general... I've since set the settings to what I want. The pic I had taken got the background wall correct, but the top part was a slight yellow tinge from the fluorescent light fixture cover.)
While there's a lot of noise at 400ISO, the noise removal process still makes a usable image. Most P&S digital cameras are typically unusable at 400ISO, but I'd say this one is fairly decent at what it does. (I've yet to test at 64 or 100ISO. but I suspect it's going to deliver quite nicely.)
I wish there was a hotshoe so I could use my own flash, but the in-built one does a very respectable job in low-light conditions. I took a snap of my living room and was floored by the quality. The burgundys, the pics on the wall, it's all highly accurate. I'm floored. Even my purple plush marshmallow peep pillows in the FAR corner came out looking VERY accurate. :wow:
I haven't tested telephoto mode yet, but wide-angle mode has NO PURPLE FRINGING WHATSOEVER. Big plus here! :bounce: :woohoo:
Did I say the colors were accurate and not oversaturated, as is often the case in the lower-cost cameras because the sheeple love overly saturated colors?
I dislike how it uses xD cards instead of SD, but the camera - so far and I let the camera use the lowest possible settings in a dark area - delivers such quality that the extra price imbued in this camera makes the extra cost worthwhile. (go mail order and settle for a high capacity module like 1GB and be done with it. Don't piddle with many small capacity cards.)
More to follow, including screen grabs...
