New (to me) edit software.
I'm not selling it, so I'm a bit reluctant to offer the name (Akvis Artwork) and won't link to it, but this blows away the stock effects I get from PS. It's rather expensive and I'm still evaluating the trail version, so I've been dropping himts to my gf who owns the TR4 pictured below that my birthday is pending (blank looks so far). LOL

Pen & ink sketch:

My youngest grandson Dylan:

Grandson Joey the goof in watercolor through a traffic cone:

Granddaughter Skye sketch:

TR4 in comic book:

Oldest grandson Jon's flying lesson:

Sugarbear in his natural blanket habitat:

I like the comic book effect a lot, and I think that's the one that has me considering buying a new toy when I probably shouldn't. I admit I'm not that good a photog, and they make my otherwise mundane pix more intersting.

1. Nice. Probably the best effects I've seen
Wish I had seen this when I was doing the damned dog books.

2. I didn't think it
was all that expensive for a plugin but you might want to give Topaz Simplify a try.

4. Very nice effect. It spurred me to see if I can emulate that effect.

Here's what I did. I desaturated, made a duplicate, applied Difference in Gaussian, then applied auto white balance. I adjusted curves by grabbing the middle of the curve and dragging it to the bottom right.

Then I faded the top layer by 50%. Merged layers. The last thing I did was added a bit of film grain.

As you can see, it is a long way from what you've posted, but it is a start. Mine looks cartoonish, yours a finely guided #2 pencil.

The next time I will fade the top layer more, and maybe use just a partial desaturation on the bottom layer. The color effects, fine detail, and textures may not be possible without the software you are using. Still it is fun to try.

BTW, I used GIMP to edit this.

8. Akbis is pretty intuitive
Just move the sliders for intensity, thickness, sensitivity, etc, and click & save in the format desired.
Those pix above were my first try on day one with the standalone program. I've figured it out better since.

I know it's not really photography, but I like toys. I think I'm talking myself into my wallet.

9. There are times when you need a special effect to tell a story or for
Decorative purposes. It is nice to have the tools when you need them.
