Some pics from Nelson, Nevada this last weekend...
...it's an old mining town, mostly a ghost town, very picturesque:

1. Seems the 'ghosts' have ignored your photos
Very nice perspective on these. I had never heard of Nelson before. Apparently most of the town was wiped out in a flood during the 70's. Is the old mill still standing? If you frequent places like this you should learn to identify gold ore. I've found a few ounces of gold just laying on the ground near one old mine. Most people would walk right by it. I gave a large piece to my neice. I would just spend the money on stupid stuff like the mortgage, health care, and food.

Thanks for sharing these. I've put Nelson on my list of places I'd like to visit.

All good photos but the first one is my favorite.

4. Hey, thanks for the kick...
...and the kind words!

I do go to Nelson and environs occasionally, usually in the spring to capture some wildflower shots. This time I decided to stop on the way in and take some shots of the old trucks, etc. It's definitely got an authentic Old West feel to it.

As for the gold ore, that is probably good advice. The Techatticup sign refers to the gold mine there that is long closed, but they do give tours. It was a very rich gold mine in its day.

5. I'm a sucker for old bits of Americana
I want to get to the desert this year but I need to brush up on my Desert Survival Skills.
:dunce:

Would love to see your wildflower photos sometime. I'm amazed by the beauty that grows freely. There's a country western song (no, I'm not much of a country western music fan) that is about Wildflowers which I kinda' like. I heard it on Big Love.

2. I'm so glad postatomic kicked this up - I missed it before.
These are so good and authentic. Love the first best, too.

I once posted a whole long thread about an old gold mine I visited in the West. Vulture Gold Mine.
Being there and getting to take the pictures was one of the highlights of that trip. I simply love the old Americana, preserved, sort of and ready for inspection and introspection.
