Yellow
The yellow flowers always seem to be the first to bloom in my garden.

The viola first... These were up and blooming before the snow was even all gone.

Then the trollius, which is very happy in its spot next to the compost bin.

And just yesterday, the first arctic poppy bloom.

1. I've found that facinating
that certain colors, even in the same type of flower, bloom before others. I wonder if any sort of study has been done about that?

Maybe yellow comes out first just to give you hope and cheer you up.

2. It does do that, for sure.
The very first thing of all to bloom around here are the (yellow) dandelions -- by the zillions. I don't mind them out along the roadsides and so on -- in fact, I find them really cheery after the long winter -- but I'd rather they didn't come into my yard. I've been spending days and days digging them out of the little patch of grass I call a "lawn" here. HullBoss wanted to nuke them, but I told him I'd dig every last one of them out by hand to stop him from doing that, so that's what I've been doing. It's a big job.

3. oh, that is a huge job
Why are dandelions so disrespected? I guess there are just so many of them. They certainly are edible--even medicinal. We just mow ours down.

Welcome to spring! (pretty flowers)

4. That's what I do
whack 'em with the weed eater. But I live out in the sticks. Cheerful little things, but they go to seed soooo quickly.

5. My dandelions were so thick in some places
they were growing on top of each other. Now that I'm getting them out, I hope the grass covers up the big bald spots pretty soon. The lawn looks like it has mange.

6. Maybe you should grow dandelions
I've decided I'm going to raise vetch myself.

7. That's funny...
I've seen some up here along our trails that we could send down to you. Vetch is definitely "flora non grata" up here, being classed as an "invasive species."

8. Oh please, no!
We're full up on vetch down here. I've weed whacked areas three times this year trying to get it before it goes to seed. Then it rains and I have to whack again. Been a busy spring.
