So, I found this driftwood, and uh oh
I put it down in order to use it to ford a little stream, snap a picture of it. Instead of an angel, or Moses, or FSM, I get

THE DEVIL

(did not notice this at the time!)

In order to balance this energy in the thread, here is a bird ID question. If I am going to take bird pics, I need to be able to identify more than crows, sparrows, robins and seagulls. What is this? It is somewhat sparrow like, but the markings don't seem the same as most of them.

1. Wonderful and recognizable devil. I'm clueless about the bird
but very proud of you for posting bird pictures around here.
I just filled my bird feeders, and spilled, accidentally, a whole bucket of it at my back door.
After cleaning it up, lots is left.
It only occurred to me when I was all through that I might have subconsciously set a trap for the birds so I could take their picture.
I don't have a tele lens or anything like that.

2. That bird is definitely an LBJ
or "Little Brown Jobbie" as my birder friend calls them (ie an unidentified small brown bird).

My best guess is some kind of finch.

5. Yay!
Finches are real sweethearts. The males are bright red this time of year. We had a family visiting our bird feeder one year. Mum and at least four chirping kids nagging constantly for food. Dad would just stand in the water dish, cooling his feet and ignoring them. I think it was his version of a relaxing spa getaway.

6. You beat me to it.
I call them LBBs. Little brown birds.

That term evolved from a trip I and a couple of friends took with the Audubon Society once. Cars would slide to a stop. People would pile out, slapping binoculars to their face and look at... LBBs.

7. Reminds me of a field trip I took
for a plant identification course. Screeching to a halt at the side of a ditch, fifty people pile out and stand around spouting Latin names for a dead stick poking out of the snow. What did I learn from that course? All dead sticks look the same.

12. Okay, my husband didn't either
But he never sees anything in clouds, driftwood, etc. My artist friend was with me on this--jumped out right away. And Mira got it right away as well.

I should have said "devil dog" It is the profile of a devilish looking dog head. The snout is to the right, and the ears are on the top left. Once you look at it that way, it looks about as evil as anything I have ever seen. I sure didn't get it at the time though, only when I looked at the picture.

I'm taking it as something metaphorical in my life. I am stomping on the "devil" to reach my goals. Hopefully that's right--metaphorically.

13. Still not seeing it.
Where is this so-called tasty snack cake you think you see?
:P

Seriously, I guess I kind of see it, but not enough for me to think it looks any more evil that any other tree branch. FWIW, I often see images in nature (clouds, rocks, trees, etc.). Here's on of my favorite photos, taken on a camping trip some years back. I call it The Goddess In The Rock:

14. those devil dogs
LOL! I don't think I could eat one.

Thanks for adding a goddess to the thread!

It's interesting how people see different things. I wonder how I would do on a Rorchach test, seeing devils that I do?
