Calling CC! And all other weasel lovers. :)
Edited on Sat Nov-08-08 10:47 PM by Blue_In_AK
I saw this in today's Anchorage Daily News and thought of you.

An ermine holds its bounty while hunting for rodents along Aviation Avenue on the south side of Lake Spenard recently. Ermine must have almost daily access to rodents in order to survive. Ermines, also known as short-tailed weasels, have brown fur in the summer that turns white in the winter and have a black tip on their tail.

A curious ermine checks out its surroundings while standing on the frozen surface of Lake Spenard while hunting for rodents on Friday, October 31, 2008. Ermines have brown fur in the summer and turn white in the winter and have a black tip on their tail. (Lake Spenard is about 1/2 mile from where I live. :) )

If you go to this link http://www.adn.com/ and click on "Photos: An Ermine on the Hunt," there is great series of 19 photos of this little cutie. You'll love them.

1. Aww, how cute!
And I couldn't help but leave a little nasty message on the Sarah Failin story.

2. We've certainly had lots of outside interest and comments
on our little Anchorage Daily News stories and blogs the past couple of months. In fact, I read this quote in this morning's paper from Andrew Sullivan:

"If you want to know why newspapers are dying . . . They're just not as good as the web at its best. This election proved that beyond any doubt. For the record, I think the (Wall Street Journal) and the (Washington Post) and the (New York Times) and the Anchorage Daily News rocked in this election. Most of the rest of the old media: not so much."

Pretty amazing that our little hometown paper is included in such august company. :)

3. Awwwww it is so cute...
...well except for the dead rodent. Hey now you know where to go to get your own photos of one. That would be neat to stake out and capture on camera. Knowing how hard it is to find tame ferrets betting it took a while to capture the ermine.
Me and my Lisfranc fracture left foot are sitting here waiting for Dec. 8 and trying to not be too crabby so the ermine was a definite mood lifter. Almost as good as hearing President Obama.
