WWI photo needs help

I've been taking photos of my boyfriend's old family photos. Here is one of his great-grandfather in WWI. It needs work! If you want to play with it, send me your email address and I'll send you the large resolution of the photo.

2. I love working on old photos

This was what was left of my sister and stepfather after the dog got at it



The higher resolution of the fix looks better, but this is what I did with it:

I really wish I knew how to do photo restoration like that. How do you restore parts of a photo that isn't even there?

4. I used one of my 3d modeling programs

to build the legs and guessed at the rest of it. It's not exactly like the original but it's close enough that my sister doesn't feel like she's lost the only picture that exists of her and her dad. (Our family was not one for taking pictures)
