Goose on Ice

I found this guy a few weeks ago at Dunton Locks County Park, where a stream between two lakes keeps a patch of water open year 'round. I'm amazed he survived the extremely frigid temps we had for a while, -25 with wind chills near -60 at times.
I wish I had popped him with a bit of fill flash to add some catchlight to his eyes, tho.

1. It's really amazing how tough some birds are.

There are some species that winter over here, too -- I don't know how they keep their little bodies warm.

We actually have quite a few ducks and geese that winter around here where there's open water all year. I can't believe they can survive the cold. And you know it's cold in Minnesota when someone asks, "Is it cold enough for ya?", and the response is "GO #@!!&^*^%$ YOURSELF!!!"
