I am leaving the country in about two hours. Not sure when I will be able to post again because I'm not exactly going to a place where Internet wireless cafes are on every corner. Imagine that, not a Starbucks in sight.
But I urge you to tune in to 60 minutes on Sunday to hear Andy Stern, president of SEIU (Services Employees International Union), speak. Yes, they are advertising on DU, which is the only reason I know. As you know, I've been covering the union down here as they represented the University of Miami janitors, who won by the way, two months into their strike.
They won on May Day while I was in NY. How symbolic is that, to win on International Workers Day? I got a personal call from one of the union organizers right after it happened.
Now SEIU wants to unionize the rest of Miami and then, the rest of the south, a tradionally union-weak region.
I believe Stern is not just talk, but a lot of action as well. We will be hearing more about him in the future.
Peace.
