Vellum by Hal Duncan

I so wanted to like this book. I wanted to like it so much that I've tried to read it three times now. Great premise, miserable execution. When he wants to, Duncan can turn a phrase like nobody's business.

Has anyone read this one, or the sequel, Ink?
