Hello from a thin-skinned DUer
Most here may know me from the big boards (i.e. GDP/GD, LBN), but I thought I would come in, say hi and share.

I joined DU four years ago last month. Being a newbie, I didn't know DU terminology (i.e. flamebait, kick, tombstone, etc.), so I was just post away a vent about Democrats that always get attacked. I know there are fellow DUers that may not like me and have me on ignore since then (and now), which is why I don't start threads out there much anymore.

I tried that during the primaries, but was dismissed and called just another attention seeking poster for posting about something that happened 2 years earlier. I was near in tears because I felt like no one wanted to listen, so I just stayed out of the way.

I am always a civil DUer, never one to rock the boat or stir up trouble. Never bashing (though disagreeing with?) Democrats, engaging in name calling, or anything else that violates DU rules.

Anytime I see a poster dissing or bashing a good Democrat, the red X becomes a best friend. I know that's not right, but maybe it's because I never differentiate between bashing or just disagreeing.

Before the O NSA team was announced today, I did have (ok before then :)) a tendency to post biting sarcasm for the Democrats I defend, which didn't go over too well, or, repeat what others said about a Democrat, only to be told that I was being whiny for posting an opinion. Again, I figured it was best to just be quiet.

I always have the tendency to focus on the negative and not the positive or take things too personally. Maybe it's from thinking about all the experiences from when I was younger until now.

Just like with my old job. I always remember the bad experiences, not the good experiences, or the bad, rather than the good things that were said to me, and that always comes out in my posts/opinions. I am always trying to think positive and see the big picture, but it always comes back to the negative. I want to get help and advice for reversing this trend.

Thanks for reading.

1. I wish I could help, but I pretty much do the same thing.
I think I'm hardwired for extreme cynicism now. For me it's just very hard to be positive in a world where so much is wrong in so many ways in so many areas. When I feel a bit of hope I tend to squash it. Getting my hopes up in this world seems a dangerous thing for me personally.

The last 8 years haven't helped this built in cynicism either. x(

Maybe someone can give us both some tips.

2. It's ok
At first, I was afraid that someone was going to jump on me for saying I didn't belong at DU because politics is for the strong and not the weak, but so far so good. :hide:

Thanks. :grouphug:

5. The secret of people is that it's much easier for us to track negative stuff
than positive stuff. Must be a leftover from tracking environmental threats or something -- that other biped that was gathering our food. :)

6. Yes
And I know this thread doesn't fall under mental illness (thought I have a family member with schizo), this was the only group that came close to the topic of positivity vs. negativity.

:)
